And this guy pops onto my screen(Benny Hinn). His circus tent freak show was out there pressing hands against heads and casting the demons to the recesses of the netherworld. It was quite a spectacle watching these folks pad this guys silky, slimy wallet.
I happen to be a Christian, but don't buy the crazy propaganda from the right wing preachers, people like Pat Robertson, Benny Hinn, Jim Bakker. Growing up I would read Billy Graham's column from the local paper. My grandmother taught me a lot about him. Learning from her gave me this sense that Billy and his ministry wasn't out to con the public. Seeing these other PTL-like, TBN snake oil salesman makes me wonder about how naive the public really are.
And when did God join the Republican party? All I have heard from the Pat Robertsons, Gary Bauers, Jim 'homosexual' Haggert's of the world are that Republicans hold a home for the Lord. It makes me cringe to even think this. Bauer's message may mean something to folks out there, but I see him right up there on the mantle with Mitt Romney and the rest of the robotic pundits and politicians that cast out evil in the name of the GOP. Bauer, Robertson, Romney may all be good men, I just don't buy into their rhetoric. Politicians for me can't heal a sinner, only the person knee deep in the mire can pull himself out with a hand from God.
Seeing both sides court the religious vote is quite sickening. Hillary Clinton clapping hands in an all black church, Barack Obama walking the streets of Selma, John McCain making amends with the 700 Club founder Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, watching the news these days is as close to having a reality Twilight Zone. Rod Serling will pop out of the shadows soon, I am sure of it.
This is Mr. Hinn at his worst:
