The body of an 18 year old female was found on the roadside of a highway, suffering from a single gun shot wound. Apparently she was found barely alive but later died at a hospital from the wound.
This 18 year old was a student at Auburn University. I do not know this woman except for what I hear in news reports. The reason that there is news reports about this person is what is so sad.
Lauren Burk was a freshman in college having just graduated from high school last spring. On March 4, she was at school(sounds like she was in the student parking lot) when a man approached her at gun point. This man forced her into his car and he drove off with her.
5 miles later her body was left on the side of the road dying. What happened in the meantime must have been sheer horror for this poor woman. At first the man was robbing her at gun point, but that wasn't enough. After terrifying her at gun point he pulls the car over and tries to rape her. As she was trying to get away from his attack, he shot her one time. He then proceded to drive off and left her to die.
Was he feeling any remorse for what he did? Probably not. He later on went back to the campus and set her car on fire using petrol to burn it. He was later arrested when a video of him was showed at a minimart buying the petrol. Today in court he confessed to robbing, kidnapping, attempting to rape and murdering her and then setting her car on fire.
This is such a tragedy. I can not imagine the horror this woman was experiencing in the last few minutes of her life. She was only 18 years old, still a child really. Young enough to be my daughter. And she was someone's daughter, imagine the horror and sorrow they are feeling at this moment. Just think, on March 3 everything was fine. She was fine and living well. The next day it is all over for her because of some ramdon act of selfious violence. She is gone and her family and friends will never be the same again. They will live with this the rest of their lives.
Today, the mother of the murder suspect was crying and apologizing to the victims family for what her son had done. You could see the pain in her face. She will have to live the rest of her life knowing what pain her son caused that family and the life he took. This is a tragedy for everyone involved.
The next morning on March 5, another college student was killed in another act of random violence. Eve Carson, who was the student body president at the University of North Carolina was murdered and she too was left on the roadside. The killer left with her car and tried a few times to use her ATM card. She was just 22 years old.
2 students, with nothing but promising futures, are taken from this world. The world is a little less bright now because it is missing 2 of its shining stars. But the ones who caused all this pain and sorrow are still with us. This is an example of what society is becoming. It seems that we are losing too many bright lights and gaining too many bad seeds in this world. It is scary to think what the future has instore for our country if this is where it is headed. Many acts of random violence are happening on a daily basis but just don't get the attention that these two events did.
I hope for our countries sake that we can turn this around and find the love our country use to have. If people have love in their heart, stuff like this will not happen. Lets spread the love around. Love does nothing but good for people. You can see from these 2 acts what lack of love can do.
