So much attention has been made this week about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. and his preachings in his church, and rightfully so. But it got me to thinking, where is the love in church? I am sure this is not the only church that has preaching like this. Just as an example, I wonder how many churches teach that homosexuals are not to be tolerated? But the fact is that God does not hate homosexuals, he hates the acts of homosexuality but loves the person.

God loves everyone. The bible tells us so. Jesus tells us so. So if God loves everyone, why can't we as people love everyone too? No preacher should be teaching this hatred when the bible tells us to do the opposite. Jesus teaches us in the bible to love our enemies;

"But I say to you who hear; Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.Luke 6:27-28

Jesus also tells us to make peace with our adversaries. If you do not make peace with your adversary, the animosity for your adversary continues to grow. The more it grows, the less likely there will be a reconciliation between you and your adversary.

But what I heard from Rev. Wright was the complete opposite. Instead of preaching love and forgiveness, all i heard was the preaching of hating the ones who done you wrong. When have you ever heard a preacher use the Lords name in vain in church to condemn something? I thought not using the Lords name in vain was one of the 10 commandments? So what is a preacher doing using it in church to condemn his enemies? I am quite certain Rev. Wright is not the only one guilty of this either.

Love makes life simple. So love your neighbor and forgive your adversary. Then forget hating those who do you harm, are different then you, or tell things you don't like. I promise you that if you try this, you will feel better about your life. And life is always better when you feel better.
