Life is great. There are so many things to do. So many places to see. So many challenges to try. So many goals to try and achieve. To top it all of, we live in the greatest and most free country in the world.
With all these wonderful things in life us Americans can look forward too, why do we focus on the bad things in life? If you watch any news channel you will notice they only talk about things that are bad or go wrong. They are scandal driven. They love controversy. It seems they all have agendas and that means we do not get all the news, just their version of it.
Example; The Iraq War. If you watch the news about this war all they talk about is the bombings, the violence, the bickering the politicians do, the money spent on it and so forth. How come they never talk about the good things that are being accompolished over there?
I was in Iraq for 21 months and let me tell you my experience over there. Sure it was dangerous, but when you see the joy our work was bringing to people who live there, you say to yourself it is worth it. The joy on the kids faces when you give them food, or they attend a recently built school, or the relief on the citizens faces when their loved ones are getting help in a new hospital. I never got to mingle much with the citizens, but when I did I could see they were happy to see me. Many of these people over there for the first time have opportunities to succeed in life. If I had to go back I would in a heartbeat. It brings me joy to help people who have so much less then I do. Of course there are some bad things going on over there, it is a war after all. But you will never know about the good stuff because the media doesn't cover it.
So why does the media only focus on the bad and not the good things? It is because we as Americans thrive on misery. That is not to say all people are like this, but many are. We want to hear all the trouble Britney Spears is having. We want to hear all the gossip. We bad mouth people we don't like. We like to claim the country is racist when probably less then 1% is. We love violence(unless of course it is directed at us, then we cry bloody murder). We sue one another for stupid things. We cheat one another. We try to get over all the time. We laugh at others troubles. We lie, murder and steal. Why? We only live once, why not make it a happy life?
The reason we do these things is because we lack love in our heart. Of sure, we love our friends and family(for the most part), but we do not love people as a whole. And for this, the media thrives on our lack of love. That is why they focus on the bad and not the good, makes for good ratings. Do you realize if everyone had nothing but love for everyone else, almost all the troubles in the world would be extinct.
I am a dreamer, this I know. But I am a dreamer because I do have love in my heart for everyone. My love is not selective. I might not see eye to eye with you, or I might debate you, but I still love you. Even if you don't love me. And I try to show positive things in the way I conduct myself. At the same time I worry about this country. We are shifting from being a God fearing and loving country to a country that is self centered and violent. This country will not survive with this mentality.
Today is good Friday, the day someone gave me the ultimate gift. The day Jesus died for my sins. So it is only fitting that I give a quote from Him on this day that I think best reflects what I am talking about.
Mark 7:18-23 Defilement Comes from Within So he said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile a him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?"
And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, lewdness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All These things come from within and defile a man.
So lets change things as a society. Lets start to focus on the good and not the bad. Lets love everyone instead of a select few. Lets help out a stranger or someone in need and not look for things in return, or rewards for it. For if you do, you will notice that having unconditional love in your heart for everyone will make you a happier person. Need an example. Read some of the blogs on here that are full of hatred and ask yourself, is the writer of that blog happy? Probably not. Then read the ones full of love and ask yourself, who is having the happier life, the one full of hate or the one full of love? I think this answer is a given.

Here are some great things to focus on:
Only 305 days left of the Bush regime.
Rudy Guiliani is playing golf somewhere instead of running for President.
Michael Moore doesn't have a new movie coming out.
No one in this country is forced to believe in your god, or anyone else's.
Britney Spears isn't the first thing I see on television every day now.
The Supreme Court is still alive, and so is Hugo Chavez.
See, like you said, focus on the positive, and the world becomes a better place.

Awesome blog!! Thankyou, thankyou! So refreshing to read such positive words for a change. A friend of mine has done a tour of duty in Iraq (and is going back) and he says the same things you have. So many people are being helped. yet, the journalists don't comment on that. It is too bad.
Again, thankyou for posting this,,, it is excellent,,, kudos to you! Have a blessed Easter!
