Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook of fear for him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you." So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
The following bible passage is from Mathew 28: 1-8
This is the reason for Easter. Today we who believe celebrate the love and sacrifice that Jesus gave to all who will accept it. Many different religions celebrate this day in their own way. Who is to say who is right or wrong in their celebrations. The way you celebrate does not make for the signifigance of the day. For no matter how you celebrate it, what you are celebrating is what the day is all about.
Like many christian holidays, we as Americans always seem to find a way to commercialize it. This is sad because it takes away from what the day is really about.
In the bible, Jesus predicts His own death 3 times. Jesus knew His fate, for His fate is the gift of eternal life. Jesus died for our sins.
so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:21
So this sacrifice that Jesus made for all mankind is a precious gift that if we so choose to accept it, will reward us. Jesus dies for our sins and for this, whoever accepts Jesus into his/her heart and asks for forgiveness of sin, will have eternal life. I am happy to have accepted Jesus into my heart some time ago. From that day forward, my life has been much happier. I can only hope that people who have not found the joy and happiness that I have found will someday find it.
