Forgive me, I am borrowing a song title from Shania Twain to name this blog. I hear a lot of complaining lately about the economy and that we will soon be in a recession. I personally don't believe we are headed for a recession but just by me saying it won't change the mind of those who believe we are.
So why are people complaining? Is it because they are afraid that they can not survive a recession?
A lot of people are just plain awful when it comes to money. By a show of hands, how many of you are living from paycheck to paycheck? Ok, you can put your hands down now. That is a lot of you. Isn't it funny that many people who live from paycheck to paycheck are constantly putting themselves in further debt with credit cards purchases.
No one has the patience to wait for something, so they buy it on credit and then take forever to pay it off. The interest alone on these purchases is what does the most damage. So why don't people just wait and save up for something, then pay cash for it? Think of all the money you will save from paying no interest.
We as people need to plan our lives better when it comes to money. Living from paycheck to paycheck is just one moment or event of away of being unable to pay our bills. We buy things we can't afford. We buy SUV's and then turn around and cry bloody murder when it comes to gas prices. NEWSFLASH! Gas prices will always be high, get use to it. And SUV's are never going to get great gas mileage. We buy homes we really can't afford. Just look at the interest some of these people were signing up for who had their homes foreclosed on. Insane! We have children but can't afford healthcare, then want the government to raise taxes on the rich to pay for our children. Maybe we should wait to have children when we are more financially set, then we can afford healthcare. Just a thought. Take it with grain of salt. But until we become more responsible in our spending habits, we will always spend more then we can afford and set ourselves up for trouble. And then those children will suffer from our lack of judgment.
Then there is the unpredictability of a job. Some jobs go overseas, some have cutbacks and slash jobs, some companies go under, some have crooks running them, and there are other reasons for job losses. But no matter what your job is, saving for that rainy day is very important. We know all the jobs are not guaranteed and some of the forementions could happen to our job, so we need to plan for it. That means saving money instead of spending money we don't have.
Bottom line is that until we become more financially responsible, we will always be one step away from money troubles. But with the right planning, money never has to be an issue, it isn't for me and I am not rich. No one wants to be dependant on others to survive. Lets take our lives back and not be at the mercy of the system, now that is real living. I hope no one takes offense, this is just my thought on the matter.
Here is part of the lyrics of the Shania Twain song - Ka Ching!
We've created us a credit card mess We spend the money that we don't possess Our religion is to go and blow it all So it's shoppin' every Sunday at the mall

Yep, that's me paycheck to paycheck. And like thousands of other Americans, it has nothing to do with credit cards that I've never had or financial responsibility. Losing 3 jobs in four years in a bad economy puts a damper on your life savings.

oh now I have seen everything...I can no bet my 401-k on a Shania Twain song...
Thursday we will find out what state of "ruin" we are really headed as a report from the Treasury Dept. is due to come out then. From what economists are saying...the next 18 months are not looking very good!
I hope you saved for a rainy day...You just might need it!
Now back to some Judas Priest..."You don't have to be old to be wise"!

Can we whine about the escalating effects on a limited fixed income? Poor planning, for sure (and accidently living longer than anticipated, lol )

I have my eyes closed and am not looking at my 401K....but that said...I agree, people live WAY beyond their means.
"How much house you can afford" is the biggest joke I've ever seen. Maybe if I want to be married to a house payment!

Just keep believing Bush and the fed reserve, lol
They are spending 150 billions so we all can go to Wal-mart to buy Chinese goods, why pay off the credit cards debt or other debt, when you buy more crap for your house your gonna lose soon, but make sure you steal a shopping cart for all of your worldly good, after you get foreclosed on.
Our govt, was just being nice and gave Bears and sterns 200 billion as an Easter present and don't worry about the 12 billion a month to help build bridges in Iraq, when ours are falling down.
Healthcare, who need that, we all have million dollars in the bank to pay for all the surgeries we will have in the future.
Who cares if food prices go up another 35% and gas goes up 150% when we get our 2.9 % cost of living raise to equal that.
Three cheers for GWB,lol Ka-ching in Bush means recession.
