Most of you know that my son served in Iraq, for a short time. While he was there, he cooked for his troop and the Iraqi men.
As they were preparing to visit the base to collect supplies as they were so low, they were approx. half way there, when an IED blew up near there hummer.( I have the actual video). My son was making it too send back to me, when this occured.
After the IED blew, they decided they had better get back to there bunker. It was the beginning of the tirades, took 3 days before it was over. At this time, his buddies noticed from my sons ear that it was bleeding. Needless to say, he didn't feel too much pain. But it developed an awful buzzing sound. They only could pack his ear, as they had to wait again, another day to get to the base doctors.
Now...2 months back in the states, the doctors have been working 24/7 basically around the clock removing shrapnal from some of those men that served over there. So my son had to wait, again. He didn't even know that the other ear was just as bad, until the ear doctor told him. He went for a hearing test...20% hearing is all thats left with both ears!
Now, he's scheduled for a surgery that removes 3/4 of your ear and rebuilds your eardrum. He had a graft done last week, to see how fast he heals. With this type of operation, he could end up deaf in that ear and left with another one just the same. Who knows?
He tells me, he still wants to go back. (Mother is not taking this well). But he feels that they made some great changes. That we don't hear the good things that happen, only the bad. He had one man that actually talked with him, about family, religion, food, and his feelings about the whole entire war.( I have some pictures of these men).
This man told my son as he left Iraq...God Bless You and your family. Since he left....the communications tower he guarded with 5 other Iraq males, and cooked for, and also guarded the tower with, has since been taken over with hostile sergents.
Lets not judge someone until we know them well enough.

Kudos go to your Son for his bravery, courage and willingness to do what he believes to be the right thing to do. Thankyou for sharing this. I hope and pray that his surgeries are as successful as possible and that he doesn't lose all his hearing. In all likelyhood he will not be sent back due to his hearing loss. I can understand you not wanting him to go.
Young men like your son ARE meking a big difference,,, he is a son to be proud of for sure!

Yes...thanks for sharing! I do hope and pray your son will get well and for the surgery he faces.
I do get tired of the news media...all we hear is just the bad news where the war is concerned...it's so rare to hear a story of something good coming from there.

Thanks for sharing this. Please Thank your Son for protecting me, my family, and friends. I wish your Son only the best, and will hope his hearing will get better.
I wish our News would bring some good News, but it seems all they want us believe is the bad stuff.
