I never understood how any musician can "play by ear." Most musicians I see play by finger and/ or mouth. I have still yet to see someone with a piano or other instrument strapped to their ear.
Either people are lying about playing by ear, or the insrtuments are invisible to the naked eye.
Then again, I’ve never seen a clothed eye...maybe I’ll make some clothes for my eyes, I hate to be exposed by having naked ones...

I self taught myself by playing by ear to play bass guitar. Band in the 5th grade helped me to reconize certain notes and to read music when needed!

I tried to play bass by ear..it hurt too much, so I used a pick instead. MUCH better tone and the chicks dig it more..
