Decisions, decisions.....both my sons are being offered full ride scholarships for baseball....BUT I have seen other young men receive offers and just sit. So the question is, do we wait and see what other colleges come around since the season is just starting and what guarantee is there that they will not just sit.? The college my older son is going to is smaller and its a GREAT college academically, and hes playing.......decisions , decisions......................
I have also heard that sometimes when you sign the colleges wont let you out of the contract to go play at another school.....

Pitchers with good arms rarely sit very long without pitching.

My older son pitches at the college he is at right now .But one of his friends that signed at another college (LAST YEAR) who is a excellent pitcher is sitting quite a bit. they are letting the seniors do the pitching even tho they are not as good. Quite frustrating....

What harm is there in waiting? I mean, except for the waiting part.....

The bottom line is hopefully that they both get an education and graduate.

Realistically...their chances of making the "bigs" or even "AAA" are slim and none but they will always have their college degrees (should they graduate) and be able to get good jobs because of that !

So be proud of your boys and make sure they graduate from college !

Providence......My sons are also Talented and Gifted students. And they are also offered academic scholarships. I have always said education before sports. They know this is most important. The sports have always been secondary, but being a single mom for 14 years sports have helped keep them walk a straight line

And Mystery...yes patience , is very familiar to me

be patient and wait as long as you need to...to get what you want...but don't be afraid to take a risk...don't let fear hold you back...go for it when it's time and give it all you've got baby!...that's my advice yeh, that's it

Well, first off congrats to your sons! Love hearing that kind of news.

Second..... hhmmm.. think I am with the majority on this one, patience... just hold out a little longer, or if they are sure what and where, let em go for it.

Either way, fate is really in control here... so just go with your gut and have a great time with them!

Its not that the college won't let him out of his "contract" its NCAA rules. They changed this year so if you transfer schools after you start you have to sit out a year. Thats why many good baseball players go yo a Jr. college. And make sure about the amount of the scholarship ...VERY FEW colleges give full scholarships for baseball........they only have 11.7 TOTAL for the whole team........NCAA rules. The scholarships are divided and spread around. By very carefull to check on the amount of the scholarship offer

Athletics first of course. But there are a lot of things to said for waiting. First off, I'm sure the senior that are playing now waited as freshman. They'll get their turn. They don't give athletic scholarships to "not" play them.

Secondly, it might be better for your sons, physically. There are a lot of pitchers who make it all the way majors, & then are habitually injured. It seems they get all "used up" in high school, American Legion Ball, etc. Especially curveball pitchers.

Look at Kerry Wood of the Cubs, came up when he was 19-21 - something like that. Hasn't pitched a full season yet due to injury. His "stuff" incredible when he's right, but his season always ends early/mid-season due to injury. That's why he's in the bull pen.

Just the view from left field.

Mr. View from left field....lol My older Shea is a freshman and plays first and pitches for his JR. College, its the same college that is offering his younger bro a full ride. I also watch the pitch count. And thanks for the comment.
