Let us be silent, so that we may hear the whispers of the gods - Ralph Waldo Emerson
We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls - Mother Theresa Silence.. some people are afraid of it. But if you learn to still your mind, you would be surprised at what silence can bring to you. Yesterday I was working outside, as I have a ton of work to do before the cutting season begins again (grass). Picking up downed branches and my son was here cutting down two large scrub hickory trees that broke off and were downed in the back. That is a win/win situation. My son heats with the wood in the winter and he does me the favor of cutting up and hauling out the wood.
When I came in last night I was tired and sleep came easy. Waking up this morning and attending to the usual chores here, I became aware of a dull ache in my side and nausea and a headache beginning. I lifted my shirt to run my hand over the rib that seemed to be hurting when I felt the ache of my touch and the bump. I had another tick burrowed in. So I left a message at my daughter-in-law's (she loves to pick and do minor surgery on things) to have her call me when they came home (told her about the tick). She is a gem.. operated with very little cutting and removed the S.O.B.
Later, after I came home, I took a walk and some photos and then just sat and listened to the quiet. There are so many things that the silence can tell you. It can give you insights on your dreams, it can calm your fears, it can make you smile. We all need to take some time just to be silent.
Do you remember the Alan Parsons Project? I am putting the link to the song: Silence and I here:
Silence and I
Silence and I -- Alan Parsons Project If I cried out loud, Over sorrows I've known And the secrets I've heard, It would ease my mind Someone sharing the load But I won't breathe a word
Chorus: Were two of a kind - Silence and i We need a chance to talk things over Two of a kind - Silence and i We'll find a way to work it out
While the children laughed I was always afraid Of the smile of the clown So I close my eyes Till I can't see the light And I hide from the sound
Chorus and for gramps:
If you've ever worked for a boss that reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you will love this! A large company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall.
The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He walked up to the guy leaning against the wall and asked, 'How much money do you make a week?' A little surprised, the young man looked at him and replied, 'I make $400 a week. Why?' The CEO then handed the guy $1,600 in cash and screamed, 'Here's four weeks pay, now GET OUT and don't come back.' Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, 'Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?'
From across the room came a voice, 'Pizza delivery guy from Domino's.'

Learning to be alone with silence was a process for me and one that I have enjoyed. I still have a hard time clearing my mind but I so love silence. ~*~

I just love your Gramps jokes. Silence, yes the joy of silence. Before my neighbors from Hell moved in next door to me with their, give or take at any given time, four chained up barking dogs, 12 screaming kids and 20 some odd loud foul mouthed "adults", I could sit under my oak tree, and think. The loudest sound being the wind through its branches, hearing an occasional bird chirping. It was a joy I have not experienced in many of years...thanks.

Yes, silence is, indeed, golden more often than not.
That's why I grew to love the pre-dawn hours. While the other humans are still sleeping you can sit and hear the natural world as it begins to awaken.
Lovely....

Silence
Silence has come to greet me again. Oh how I love this most precious sound! Within it I hear Spirit calling me, calling you. If only we'd touch it we'd relish every unspoken or spoken word, if we knew we could or would.
Sitting, walking, standing, talking.... Silence is STILL, everywhere, if we listen.
Listen!
Can you hear the silky movement of Silence pass amidst the lovely spaces of all activity and nonactivity? It's really something to see, if you can be with this Presence that gently whispers to each of us, as a must.
It is in Silence I do trust!
Within Silence I listen. I learn. I grow. I know. Oh yes indeed, I reap what I sow!

In the middle of the night, when you think there is no one else awake. What a wonderful time it can be. I have wrote most of my poetry and stories at 3am.
The silence brings out the best in me.
Good blog!
