BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
You can tell the difference when you are in a room, restroom, motel, tanning suite etc. with a Mirror or a 2-way glass.
Here's how:
I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds you're going do what I did and find the nearest mirror....
Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not?
This is not to scare you, but to make you aware. A policewoman who travels all over the U.S. and gives seminars and techniques for businesswomen passed this on. When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror ( i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them)?
There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at? Just conduct this simple test:
Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, FOR IT IS a 2-WAY MIRROR!
"No Space, Leave the Place" So remember, every time you see a Mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything.

Waiting...
I don't know about that one. We all expect a degree of privacy or why try on clothes in a dressing room at all? Just start peeling it off in the store then.

I’ve been unable to track down any reliable source (policewoman or otherwise) of this information, nor does the NYPD have anything to do with this tragically misinformed notice.
Can you really tell if the mirror you’re staring at hides a pair of leering eyes using just your fingernail? The simple answer is no. All you can tell from the “fingernail test” is what type of mirror you’re looking at. Some mirrors (called second surface mirrors) have the reflective surface on the “bottom” of a sheet of glass, so you look through the glass to see it, thus creating a gap. The other type of mirror, a first-surface mirror, puts the reflective surface on top, thus no gap. However, this type of mirror is more expensive and usually only used where precision reflections are necessary.
The 2-way mirror discussed above is not a mirror at all, but rather a window made of specially treated glass that uses varying intensities of light to mimic the reflective surface of a mirror. When light is bright on one side, and darker on the other, the glass will look like a mirror from the brighter side. A good example is a mirrored office building. During the day, you can’t see into the building, but at night, you can clearly see into any lighted office. If the light intensity is the same on both sides of the glass, it will appear to be just a normal piece of glass.
If you really want to know if the mirror you’re using is 2-way, just turn the lights off.

Blues - the reason that text above is highlighted in yellow is because I didn't write it. Actually, I was searching for a song to enhance your blog and stumbled across the article in response to a similar e-mail. However, I just now researched it as an "urban legend" on snopes. Something I suggest everyone do before posting an e-mail. Many of these sound real, but aren't. Yours is one that is false and the information could mislead someone into thinking they are NOT being watched, ewhen they are & vice versa.
here is the link to check it out Click HERE My suggestion is to delete this blog, or better yet, leave it up to let others know the complete story. Your choice. Just trying to help you, my friend.

Although I could easily delete Jim's comment I will not do that. I thought and still do think that I was passing along valuable information. If it turns out not to be the case and this indeed was false or unreliable information I will indeed apologize as it was not my intent to do so.

I posted my last comment before I had a chance to view Jim's last comment. I clicked on snopes and indeed the fingernail test is for mirrors but not for survelience windows. My friend who sends me informative emails usually is very good at confirming on snopes. Apparently he didn't this time. I'm kicking his butt..LOL I thought I was passing along valuable information and it wasn't. For this please accept my humblest apologies. Sorry and I'm glad the email didn't encourage anyone to throw a chair through the mirror as the email on snopes did.

Thanks, Blues, for correcting your statement. I received that Email awhile ago and was all excited to post it. However, because of past experiences, I ALWAYS "Snope" it before I pass on inaccurate material. Yes, Jim's right, they OFTEN sound so very REAL that it's difficult to imagine they are truly a hoax.
You can't go wrong if you check out anything like that which you receive and contemplate passing on.....
Sincerely, Knittin kitten

Yes KK I feel like a horse's patoot but I never claimed to be perfect. I decided to leave this blog up so some other person can see what happens when you get excited about information and just can't wait to share it. Ugh...sometimes it backfires!
