From Windmills To Tulips

From Central Station in Old Amsterdam,
Across several roads to jump on a tram.
There are bikes in abundance, hanging from trees,
Chained up to handrails, in twos and in threes.

There aren't many houses, but thousands of flats,
Lining the edges of Amsterdam Straats.
See the Signel Canal, its fragrance afloat;
With flowers and bulbs, all on sale, in boats.

We'll see the flea market at Waterlooplein,
And where Anne Frank wrote; her secret domain.
From windmills to tulips, Picasso, Cézanne,
To red lights and ‘romance,' Monet, Mondriaan.

From the sidewalk cafés of Old Rembrandt Square,
To a canal and barge, where I'll end my affair;
With a small cobbled street, and board the next tram,
To get back to the station, in Old Amsterdam.

I'm loving this...it brought back lots of great memories. Holland was one of my favorite places when I worked as a Tour Director. I was stationed over there, for about 4 months....taking people throughout Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg....

BEAUTIFUL gardens....tasty cheese...fun windmills and wooden clogs.....never got to see Hans Brinker, though. Would you believe that part of our tour in Amsterdam included the Red Light District....

Hope all is well with you....A kudo's on its way, of course.

Awwwwwww, Miss Choo's what a perfect poem. I love it!

You should have seen what a gorgeous day it was today!
I walked that poem
It was one of those days where people will drag their table and chairs
down 4 flights of stairs just to spend sometime in the sunshine.
It's Spring....there is a hint of green everywhere.
The tulips are popping out all over and it just beautiful...!!!

P.S. I live just a few blocks from the Anne Frank house.....

I have lots of pics of Amsterdam at www.s1sun.smugmug.com

I feel really sorry for the guy with whom you are ending your affair with in this poem.....*sniff*

I know if it was me.....I would be devastated.

Wonderful blog, Choos!

I'm afraid that if I visited Amsterdam, I wouldn't remember that much to write about it...

Thank you to everyone who has commented on this blog,
especially the lady from Amsterdam.

My inbox is crammed and I'm not sure I will get the time to reply to everyone.

I got more emails from being away from here than ever.
