I was reading a blog about bikers and the stereotyping that goes with leathers and motorcycles. A lot of bikers do a lot of good things that go unnoticed. A lot of people that you view in everyday life who hold wonderful jobs and are pillars in their community (judges, doctors, lawyers, police officers, fireman) put on their leathers and ride.
What you may not know is that there is a memorial for bikers who have died. It is not only for the actual riders but passengers as well. Anyone who loves to ride. Their name can be forever memorialized. They didn't have to die while riding the bike either.
My son won a 1,000 college scholarship from this group of bikers for an essay that he wrote on his feelings upon visiting the memorial. He then had to read it before hundreds of bikers on Memorial Day weekend when each year they rededicate the memorial. I witnessed some say to him that he brought tears to their eyes... some of these hard core individuals who had never cried before.
If you love to ride or have lost someone who did and are interested then please type "biker wall" into a search. What will come up is an official site called the Motorcyclist Memorial Foundation. Look at the pictures, read about their mission and don't forget to sign their guestbook.

got a question......and no disrespect meant.....but why do people describe things like bikers, deadheads....phrish people as......some of them are doctors and lawlers......does this automatically make them good people?.....or is it to try and end the steriotype of those that came before?....in my simple opinion......what you do for a living.....and your income.....should be at least in third or fourth place to what kind of person you really are....just had to put my thoughts out there on a boring cold and wet saturday afternoon.......cookie

......I know several bikers...........and like you said they ............they have all kinds of professions......just because they have a harley..........and they ride in groups.....doesn't mean you should.. stereotype..........I do know though....people were shocked to learn.......that my friends are dr's and a few attorneys.......they just assumed........different because there in there chaps and things......that doesn't make the person...doesn't matter what job you have.....the job does not make the person who you are... ......it just means people assume and judge.. ...unfortunately.....they did not give them the chance to get to know the person ........and when they did........what a wake up call for them.......it changed there views........so it came out in the end a good thing...... ....

It's not about the profession. It's about the disrespect that is shown to people who have leathers on. I'm sorry but I've been there. It's a stereotypical attitude that because you ride a bike and wear leathers that your are somehow less of a person than those judging you. You may snub your nose at a guy on a bike one day because you view him as less than you are and the next day you are involved in an accident and need the jaws of life to be removed from your vehicle. You look up into the same very face that you snubbed just the day before. Different clothes same person. I'll bet now your attitude has changed because now you're in need of his help. But, the question is why judge in the first place? I'm the same person with my leathers or without them but I get treated differently when I have them on. I love to ride and I'll not stop because of some people's ignorance.

I never fail to be who I really am. There are many facets to my personality but not one of those facets is concealed because I've come to like who I am. Yet, I'm very opinionated and have absolutely no problem standing up for what I believe or what I believe to be injustice due to ignorance. So if this blog enlightened someone then that is a plus. If someone can memorialize their loved one in a tribute fitting to them then my post wasn't in vain.
