This weekend did a side job making some space planning/furniture drawings for a wealthy designer in Weston, Florida. Her house is truly a mansion. I parked my Toyota Celica along her driveway filled with custom luxury and sports cars... The place is truly a sight to behold. Cameras and security gadgets surround the premises, 12 foot high entry doors and hand painted (faux) walls with beautiful artwork and custom furniture everywhere.

Usually, the first thing I notice when I enter a persons house is it's smell. That's right... what's YOUR place smell like?

In this case, I was bombarded with room deodorizer, some nasty strong chemicals and cleaning solutions. She has a full-time cleaning woman and it smelled like a stroll down the detergent aisle in the grocery store!

I couldn't wait to finish my drawings and get out of there. When I arrived home, I had some early dinner... macaroni with tomato sauce. I removed my shirt so I wouldn't be wearing my dinner on my new shirt and proceeded to eat my meal. When I finished dinner, I put the shirt back on... just for a second.. the chemical smell was all over the shirt, so I tossed it into the hamper and pulled another from the dresser.

This morning I went to my car to retrieve my drafting table and briefcase to continue with my drawings. To my surprise, that smell was STILL THERE. Houseatosis to the N'th degree.

I wonder if she's immune to all those chemicals, perfumes and room deodorants... I found it to be most toxic. Last night before going to bed, I had 2 hits from my asthma medicine to reduce the tightness in my chest.

Hey Lady.. "Open up the window, let some air into this room
I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume"

Yes.. youre right.. many peoples homes have diffrent smells.. I dont think that the people in them know about the smells as they live in them all the time,, so get kind of used to it..

A bit like you cant smell yourself because the smell is under your nose all the time.

Ive been told that the villa here smells of washing powder.. not a bad smell I spose.. mainly because with 5 dogs I am constantly washing their bedding so it doesnt get to a 'doggie' smell.

I had a similar visit to a home last December (They have famous relatives that I guess I should not publish here, but what a shock it was...beautiful home with a water front view!)...except she was a chain smoker! ICK!! I couldn't wait to get out of that house either...then when I got in my was there with me my clothes, hair and now my car...I had to come home and shower and change... I know what you are saying...

and I wonder if she has any idea how harmful it is to breathe those chemicals
in on a regular basis. "That ain't the way to have fun, son."

It's the first thing I notice too... Yes, they are harmful, not only for the environment but
for her, many people are becoming allergic to everything under the sun and it started
from living in such an environment.
