Oh how sad. I have fostered kittens and there is usually a loss in each litter, and no matter how you understand that fact on an intellectual basis, there is little you can do to overcome nature.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. ~Kahlil Gibran

Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak whispers the o'er-fraught heart and bids it break. ~William Shakespeare

They say it so much better than I ever could Sci....

Awww, bummer. I had such high hopes for their survival.

I'm sorry, and thanks for doing everything you could for them.

I am sadden along with you. We try to hard to right the wrongs sometimes and then end up having to grieve.

Bless you for trying, and give Pancake a little scratch for me, it really is not her fault either.

It was such a rocky start for the little pancakes, and you did the best you could - Mother Nature just won this one. They are so fragile when they're born...

I always have birds nesting on the front porch, and one year the momma tossed out all four chicks. They had the beginnings of feathers, so it was a difficult clean-up for me. At first i thought it as only one....then two.....by the time I found the fourth one, I knew their momma had to be cracked in the head.

Sometimes Nature just has to have Her say.

I'm so sorry, Sci.

My heart goes out to you sister...Those of us who have worked to foster a struggling
new life know the disappointment...A Beautiful Black Angus calf comes to my mind.
But, Think of all of the sucesses that you have had, and the difference you have made
just by being who you are...Does that not take some of the sting out of the sorrow?

...and this sad story, from the beginning, ties in with the topic in the General Forum about whether females are hard-wired to nurture. Pancake may have been scrambled in her head, but I'm sure your seen "maternal rejection" out of the blue before.

So many of your critters have been extra lucky that your nuturing-genes run full steam. (I really appreciated seeing the photos of those triplet pinkies -- it's hard to imagine how something that fragile can survive outside!)

When I seen the picture of the three I was amazed and went to work telling about your work. I'm so sorry they did not make it. Big hugs my friend for doing all you do and dealing with the sorrow when it doesn't work out well. ~*~

Sometimes this kinda thing just happens. The feelings experienced by Sci today are shared by everyone who happens to give their time and energy in the preservation of wildlife, but they keep on going, giving when others continue to ignore. Your well wishes are greatly appreciated.

Sci,

I am so very sorry for this. I know how hard you try to always preserve life and nurture the helpless!

great shall be your reward, for caring so much for the helpless.

...because I wanted to say....

how sorry I am about the triplets. You give so much of your heart and spirit to keeping these little fur balls protected until they are ready (if ever) to be released. You work round the clock and you put all of who you are into the tender care and love you afford them.

I am truly sorry.. came back to tell you so..

My heart breaks for you. You did all you were capable of. Things are as they are.

To plod on and keep going while knowing there will be pain as well as joy,,, well, hey... thats what makes the necessary change eh? The belief that one step at a time, one inspiration leading to the next, one example teaching another...

I wish for you 6 good hours...

I'm sorry this is so late. I wish I had known sooner.
Hugs.
