... But what the heck happened to fuel prices?

I drove past the garage today down from our flat, and diesel is £1.20 a litre; that's an increase of something like 20% since I was away.

Telling how much that is for our American friends is difficult as our fuel is prices in litres, as in gallons it would frighten us. And a Bitish and Amerian gallon are different. But I am guessing regular now is over $7 a gallon.

What's that all about?

And now fuel workers the biggest refinery in Scotland are going on strike for a couple of days; and now there are fuel shortages there and spreading south. This is crazy.

70% of the price of fuel in Britain is tax, but that hardly explains why the cost has gone up so much recently.

Thankfully, we have car trouble and so can't venture far from Dover and so we only have to fill the Polo up every month or so, but even so costing over £40 to fill it up now; how do people who need their cars cope with this?

Why are we just sitting back and taking this?

Apparently hedge funds are gambling on fuel futures and making a killing; well, congratulations guys; but what about the rest of us dopes?

America buys EVERYTHING from China and sends all of our computer jobs to India. With their new "wealth" China & India are able to compete with Europe & America for goods; oil, food & products.... so now we're all paying more for everything.

Gas in CA is $3.91 a gallon fo regular. We'll just have to get used to it and use even less.

I drive a sports car, I need to use premium fuel..the cheapest and still good gas I can find here in Los Angeles is $4.07 and it's rising daily...your estimate of $7 is probably right on, we here in the US don't know how good we have it compared to you all.

And yet the oil companies continue to make profits in the billions, quarterly, and my government gives them tax breaks.

People are finally opening their eyes, hybrids are big sellers here. I know I'll probably trade mine in for something with better MPG and less expensive fuel soon, it's getting so I can't afford to drive to work anymore.

It's kinda scary, but, truthfully, I haven't a clue what more I CAN DO ABOUT IT.

No more pleasant drives in the country.....No more weekend car trips.....Making my "errand" list taking into account the routing.....Thank goodness no more regular trips to and from work. And, now I hear that fuel from corn isn't what it's cracked up to be and will not solve our problems...

Sadly,
