I got out of the shower, dried myself off and looked at my pale reflection in the bedroom mirror as I applied my Clinique moisturiser, before drowning it with some extra dark foundation and adding black brow pencil to accentuate my eyebrows.

Already I didn’t recognise myself.

I tied my hair back into a pony-tail before gluing on some false eyelashes and adding some thick black mascara.

I got my Salwaar Kameez from the wardrobe, put it all on and added all the ‘bits and bobs,’ the bracelets, necklace and earrings before putting on my long dark wig, to which I pinned on the large jewel to hang on the centre of my forehead.

I was a changed woman…just like an Asian.

As I walked down the street to my car, I saw Sam, only this time she didn’t recognise me and kept her face in focus straight through me, as if I didn’t exist. That was unusual for Sam, because she was always smiling at everybody, even strangers, though perhaps not Asian ones.

I got into my car and kept my head veil on for the journey. As I drove the seven miles into the city, I felt a difference in a lack of respect from other drivers: I had never noticed anyone treat me differently before, I have always felt equal to all drivers, only this time I felt as if I was not only being treated like a woman driver, but an Asian woman driver.

Standing still at the traffic lights, I felt that the person behind me was frustrated at me and had wanted me to go a little faster than was legally allowed. The lights changed and that driver overtook me at great speed, you could see and sense the anger and frustration.

I had never experienced anything like this before.

As I approached the City Centre, a taxi driver in a ‘no U Turn zone’ decided to do an illegal U Turn, without any indication whatsoever. I made him aware of my presence by flashing my headlights and putting on my brakes quickly, otherwise, we might all have been dead meat.

As my vehicle came to a stop, the taxi driver looked at me, but as he took a closer look, rather than drive off in haste because he had made a big mistake, he slowed to a stop! He looked at me with daggers, waved his fist, shouted obscenities and sped off.

I was absolutely astounded, again, a complete contrast to the way I am treated by Asians.

Very Interesting. However - did you ever think you were
EXPECTING to be treated different and hence CREATED the
treatment? After watching "The Secret", I am wondering
how much we influence our surroundings by our thoughts.

Thank you for writing this blog.

No, not at all.

The experience was created in innocence, if you read my first blog about
it, it will explain more of how it came about.

The both blogs are written about the same occasion, just in two parts.

I haven't seen 'The Secret'

It's funny how difference makes for different. Since I have gained weight, I am treated different......

Sad... ......for anyone to be treated any different....because of race, sex, skin and the list can go on... .........unfortunately.........that is the way some people are.........little misschoos.........amazing when you touch a big point in a blog.........I am always amazed ..........how .......things go unnoticed........and people look away.........

that is a very sad thing...........like your other blogs on rape or abuse of some kind........... not sure why that is........but it is definitely sad

From the band
A S I A

And now you find yourself in '82
The disco hot spots hold no charm for you
You can concern yourself with bigger things
You catch a pearl and ride the dragon's wings

'Cause it's the heat of the moment
The heat of the moment
The heat of the moment showed in your eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyes

And when your looks have gone and you're alone
How many nights you sit beside the phone
What were the things you wanted for yourself
Teenage ambitions you remember well
