I was just reading a response to a blog comment that I had made last night and I was sitting here doing some thinking..........

I was thinking about the question that I asked about relationships and what the word relationship meant. Call me "Old School" unwilling to keep up with the times but I still have in my head that a relationship is something special. So special that you do not take it lightly or discard it easily. Nor do you go into it with a blind eye.

To me this whole idea of having a "relationship" online where you begin a relationship and end a relationship without ever meeting is so unreal. So much so that the whole concept seems foreign to me. When your body notices something foreign it's natural response is to act to remove the foreign substance. That's exactly how my mind is dealing with the concept that I see as internet dating on here. Is the whole experience supposed to be a mind game? A substitute for a traditional physical relationship? Or is it an extended game involving two partners played out for the whole world to see. Then all of a sudden one of the two gets tired of playing and the game is over?

If you never actually intended on having a future with the person then why bother? Is it just to elevate your ego? To give confidence a boost?

For those lucky enough to desire a relationship in every sense of the word, I would suggest that once you are involved that your correspondence become private. Do you normally take out an add in a newspaper? This keyboard and screen is more powerful than any newspaper could ever be. It's good to let people know that you have found someone and you are exploring possibilities together. More than that is nobodys business.

The following is the comment that I posted on a blog that inspired the previous thoughts.

The beauty of life is that you take a chance and live life. If you sit back and wait for everything to be perfect you will have never lived. Life is about experiences good and bad. It's about growing and never ceasing to learn from your mistakes. If you fail to grow and thrive..you die. I believe you can die emotionally as well as physically. One's character is formed from every conflict, good and bad, that you have gone through. The important thing is to be able to ascertain a lesson from each experience and use that knowledge to move forward. No one ever said life was easy, no one ever said it was perfect. They just said you get a chance. Having a heart full of yesterdays flaws and bruises is normal. That person has lived. They've opened their hearts to experience the bruising, they have flaws because they are human. The happiness in life that you get is the happiness in life that you are willing to give. You must look introspectively at who you are and know what and who you are looking for. You must take the time to know the content of your own character and then look for the content of character that matches yours. When you have reached emotional maturity you know yourself and are happy with yourself just as you are. Then and only then are you capable of giving and receiving the love that a relationship requires. That is the beginning of your journey. Relationships take work and sacrifice but if it works and you find true happiness, it's all worth it. ..... TnT

Excellent statement (highlighted),
however, I believe the word compliments rather than "matches"
would further improve your statement.

Thanks Jim. Compliments may be a better choice of words there. Although on some aspects of character I want a complete match to mine. It's like some things are non-negotiable. I know you and I disagree on the meaning of what constitutes a relationship, but that's okay for two people can agree to disagree. That's the beauty of respecting someone's else's opinion.

I do not believe that you and I disagree on what a committed relationship means.
However, you and Websters disagree tremendously on the meaning of the word "relationship".

Lets hear it for "Old School". Something I have often described myself as being. One man.....one woman...one relationship.........giving it all that they've got.

I loved the blog and the coment. I find out pretty quickly if someone plans on meeting me or not. And I don't go into it thinking there will be more than a meeting. When it happens to be the right one then we'll both know. I do not broadcast my real life for allto discuss. Some aspects of it I like to share in photos and fun blogs, I also like to laugh and make others laugh.
