An obsession is an unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with something or someone.
What drives this can be a personal sense of inadequacy, a longing to be accepted and a dire need to prove that one’s behaviour is in fact better than it actually is.
This is normally derived from some past shameful behaviours for which there appears to be a need to ‘correct’ it in an overly compensated manner.
Behaviour patterns can be somewhat erratic, ricocheting from the absolute ridiculous to deep sadness and even a need for forgiveness and acceptance.
Reassurance and justification are usually what feeds this angry obsession:
Child like actions to ‘cover up’ for mistakes which are blatantly obvious to onlookers, but to the obsessed they are happy to believe that they are making good progress.
The obsession takes over their life; it’s all they are left to think about. They start to believe that everything is ‘about them’ but are no further from the truth.
As the obsession eats away, they start to wriggle like writhing worms, hoping that nobody notices they in fact have an obsession at all.
