With gas hovering around $3.61 a gallon it's actually a minute increase compared to traffic fines. As Michigan sinks further into it's economic depression local city governments have declared war on motorists in an attempt to increase revenues.

Sting operations to catch motorist not wearing seat belts, speeding, turn signals, parking, etc. are everywhere. A local city issued so many tickets over a weekend there was a line clear out of the court house to the parking lot some 25 yards away for 2 day's.

5 miles over: $135.00
Seat belt: $75.00
Parking street cleaning: $65.00
Turn signal: $65.00

If that's not bad enough visit the local Secretary of State for new plates or driver license renewal. If the wait don't kill you the price tag will. As far as the States customer service skills, most wouldn't have a job any where else.

My CODB over the past several years is up 27.6% which is mostly due to increase's in taxes, licensing and energy. Michigan taxes on energy are the highest in the country. To survive you either have to move out of state or accept the fact that you are in business to benefit everyone else but yourself.

Of Michigan's sum 800,000 welfare recipients 57% are on long term welfare programs at a cost of 1.8 billion dollars. The tax paying public footing the bill for some 219,000 state employed unionized workers earning ridiculous wage and benefit packages that the State can no longer afford and never could.

In closing,

Over the year's I have watched unions close the doors or drive out businesses in droves all over the state. I have watched black america desimate the city of Detroit and surrounding area's to the point more economic activity can be found on a freaken deserted island. Destruction on a level never seen since Hiroshima.

It's sickening to hear people like Rev. Wright, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Deceit on a level that it's apocalyptic for not only Michigan but the entire United States. As a business owner I'm fed up with those who think I owe them their good fortune.

F'en U.A.W part assembler with a winter home in Florida and a summer home in northern Michigan while 75% of the rest of America can't even afford to buy a car. How freaken ridiculous is that.

Who's paying and suffering through all this?, the business owner's and the average Joe who makes a wage comparable to the task.

The states with the strongest unions have the strongest economies.

Or do you want to go back to the good ole days of child labor and no worker health care ?

The stage for the gas price profiteering was set in Ronald Reagan's administration when they decontrolled petroleum.

Opec refused to increase supply because (they said) it is speculation on the futures market, not supply and demand driving the prices skyward. How many billions of profit dit Exon post in this year's first quarter ? It set a new record.

Is anyone else for controlling prices again ? The criminal rich will destroy us all for an extra dime. Only the commies believe in class warfare, right ?

$3.61 a gallon and you're complaining?! It's $5.75 a gallon up here where I live and we're one of the cheaper cities! What irks me beyond anything is the people yelling at me about the prices...hey I only work at a gas station. I don't like the prices either.

Last year Esso Canada boasted a 4 BILLION dollar profit. Why not make it 40 billion and put the prices back to under $1.00? You'd have more people filling up instead of putting $5 here and there, more people travelling, and I'd stop getting the slack!

Yeah like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, etc. There are plenty of Federal, State and local laws that protect workers. Why is health care up to your employer to provide? better yet provide health care for your spouse and children. Better yet, provide health care for people that can't afford to have 4 kids in the first place?.

What's the employee's obligation? push a broom for a $130,000 per year wage and benefit program? Weld a pipe for a $175,000 a year wage and benefit program.

You friend are part of the problem.

Yeah and the fat asses who fill up the SUV to drive a block to the store instead of walking don't play a role at all. The environmentalist who haven't allowed a refinery built in this country since the 70's has nothing to with it also. The fact is pal Exxon
Mobil makes 7 cents on a gallon of gas and we consume in the United States 400 million gallon a day. That's 146 billion gallon a year. Don't blame Roney, blame the American consumer. Typical union man, everyone else is to blame but them.

These are excellent points. I am all for people making a living wage, but this situation is out of control. Between the unions, the outrageous cost of healthcare, and monumental taxation, we have made it virtually impossible for a business to operate in America.

The concept of living in Florida and working in Michigan Is indeed ridiculous. The drive to work time and gas..... impossible in reality.

What is the source for the $139,000 broom pushers. Why would a car company ever sign a contract for that? Give it the old reality test.

Great blog LR.
I just heard on the radio that we have enough gas right here in the USA to supply 60 million cars for 60 years. So why can not we get the gas? The environmentalist and the Democrats is why. They do not want any drilling in the US.

It's called a " strike ". or in reality terms " extortion ". Company's don't have a choice. They either sign the contract or get shutdown.
