The Yahoo/Associated Press top story today: "One of the worst earthquakes in decades struck central China on Monday, killing nearly 9,000 people, trapping about 900 students under the rubble of their school and causing a toxic chemical leak, state media reported."
More excerpts:
"The 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated a hilly region of small cities and towns in Sichuan and nearby provinces."
"It hit about 60 miles northwest of Chengdu in the middle of the afternoon when classrooms and office towers were full."
Chengdu is a large city, population over 11,000,000.
At this time, I have nothing more to add other than I'll be watching the news and hope assistance arrives quickly.

OMG that's so tragic. I was watching CNN about the cyclone that hit Burma. They had a reporter sneak in to film and showed dead bodies floating everywhere. The death toll there so far is 32,000. There is so many health issues to deal with. At first the government was not allowing any assistance in the country. I couldn't even imagine having to live around so much death.

I agree, can you imagine the sights of all that death and the affect it will have on people, mainly children seeing it? Something they will never forget. It's like going to a funeral, it's hard to keep the thoughts of seeing the person in that casket out of your mind and lasts forever. I just feel for those who have to endure wars, catastrophies and such and see all this death. I don't know how they handle it.
