Science Vs Theology

All my life I have believed in God, at first it was because I was told to... and then eventually I did so for myself.

The more and more people started to NOT believe, they started insulting Christians for being stupid in believing in something hypothetical. I'm not here to push my religion on anyone. I believe in God and I believe in some scientific things as well.

But I have questions that need to be answered...

1. In my understanding, the way science works, is that in order to prove something to be factual, you have to be able to prove the opposite as well. As in only one thing works, and that there is only one solution.

If I am to prove that God exists.... can you prove to me that he doesn't?

2. As scientists, if you want people to take your work seriously, why not focus on improving the world instead of insulting people that don't think like you?

3. Which would you honestly rather believe in or look forward to?
Knowing that if you're a good person that you'll die and end up in paradise... and that if you're a bad person you'll end up in eternal hell? OR believe that we're living a meaningless existence?

-------------- Religion is not only a belief, it's a hope that we're here for a purpose. It's a hope that we DO in deed have a saviour, God, or whatever diety we worship. If we're wrong ... if there's no after life... I really don't think we'd be able to care one way or another.

Ok here is my take on things.. Most believe in something even if it is the absence of something. The word given for this something is usually God, or absence of God, or it could be another name entiraly, what makes it so funny is that through out history humanity has fought and killed each other over a concept that most believe in but that their God, or another name for God or absence of is better than your God, another name or absence of.

So in essance we are not really talking about what is tangable, but something untangable that everyone has either a concept of or a feeling for.

In otherwords a name is just that a label not anything more, Religion is an attempt by humans to identify something that is not identifiable. Each with their own label be it God or otherwise.. And each saying My label is better than yours..

I think why Christians are getting such a bad rap these days is the way that the chafe has always come to the top of the pile and it makes an appearance of disproportionate quantities.. Chafe as we all know or should know is the part of the seed we cannot eat and has little value but comes in copious quantities. it is what everyone sees but in reality the seeds below that are not so obvious is where the nutrician is.. So you my friend and others like you from all religions are the seeds, the chafe is who everyone else has seen and knows, Waynesborough Baptist Church, Hazboloah, FDS (guys who have many child wives as well as grown ones), these are examples of the chafe... Yet none of these are truely at the heart of what most are in any religion which is sane, hardworking and godlike creatures who are not here to thrust anything down anothers throat.. Smile....

While I am neither an atheist or a scientist, although I have a great deal of interest in science, you do yourself ill by posing your first question. In science and in mathematics, you cannot prove a negative. So right there, they will have you at a disadvantage.

Secondly, the blog as a rule seems to state that science and religion are immutable enemies. This is far from true, the majority of people of faith embrace evolution, they believe that there were such things as dinosaurs, etc. Indeed, the majority of scientists who testified in Delaware, PA against the proponents of intelligent design, were in fact congregants of a variety of Christian denominations.

It is the vocal minority of some people of faith who give the impression that all people of faith are anti-science or support creationism or intelligent design.

Seems like you are dueling windmills.....

I can not think of a single instance where a person has found their belief in God as a result of an argument with someone who beleives or not.

I can think of thousands where people have found their faith in the course of adversity. The old line about, "No atheist in a fox hole" comes to mind.

It is an internal thing. Found through a search of your soul. It requires a measure of self realization, and willingness to accept responsiblity and judgement for your own thoughts and actions.

I find it curious, that most of the "Passionate", in your face, show me your God, atheist,,,,, are the type of personality that always seem to have an excuse and an external force or reason to justify or blame for everything that happens around them, to them, and their actions as a result.

Personally, I don't care. I don't care what someone else's beleifs are provided that they do not push those beleifs into my life without invitation. That does not mean that I do not want to see an Islamic praying, or the words In God we Trust on our money. That has no effect on my life unless I choose to let it have an effect. If I get twisted over the Ten Commandments on the wall at the court house, it's MY CHOICE TO GET TWISTED OVER IT. This is far different than having a single religion, endorsed by a KING, and forced at sword or gunpoint onto the populace. The true SEPERATION of chruch and state, where government mandated religion became law.

The people who get twisted over the symbols of religion, or are in your face about proving your GOD exists,,,,,are professional winers and victims.

You can not convert these or even convince these people that God exists through discussion, argument and discourse. You can only convince these people that God is real in your heart,,,,,by demonstration, by commitment, by peace, and by love. It is up to them to find God, what ever God, in their heart.

The teachings of any religion always give instructions for salvation. I have not seen any that say, "Open thy heart, and seek out Guerrero for debate."

When they ask for proof of God, tell them your proof is in your heart, demonstrated by your actions, which sometimes fail. And by being in your heart, it's love,,,,,,and that's proof enough for you.

Ask them to prove they love their mother, their wife or their children,,,,,they can't. They will point to thier actions, and they will have thier actions which do not support their love,,,(We all do). By turning their own argument about proof of God, being internal to you and your love, and setting that argument about the loves of their life, you can demonstrate that the proof of God, or Love, or Faith,,,,,is not mathmatical.

If they continue to argue,,,,,tell them "I'm sure you are correct in your beleif that you are probably right,,,,,now where can get some lunch and plan the rest of the day."

your questions are a bit vague but i will endure you simple minded aproach to christianity. question #1. My God is not a "he". question #2. scientists do improve the world. question #3 there is none good, save one and that is God. perhaps you might spend a bit more time reading the message that Jesus brought with him? i would suggest you get a red letter edition so that the pseudochristians don't deceive you. we be jammin

It is fine to have questions. In fact, questions are a sign of intelligence.
And yes, God can handle your questions. I was raised a christian and then went through a 15 year period where I lost faith. Yet today I am a Christian again.

A good book to read would be 'The Case for Christ' or 'The case for the creator'

both by Lee Strobel

what I have found is this

the more you believe in Jesus
the more things will began to happen in your life to prove your existence

I call it 'the eye wink of God'

Personally, I've run the gamut from alter boy, to atheist, to agnostic, to where I am now...seems to me there has to be something bigger than all this, but I don't have a clue who or what it might be, what to call it, how to communicate with it, of if it would even do any good if I could...

I respect anyone's right to see it all as they see fit as long as he/she respects my right to do the same, doesn't try to convert me, and quits trying to highjack my government. I'd feel a lot better about mainstream believers who walk the walk if they'd rise up en mass and tell the likes of Robertson, Hagee, etc, to quit spewing their very unchristian hatred and crawl back under their rocks...

As a close friend, who years ago was hit by the proverbial bolt of lightning and became born again, once said...even if the big bang is true and actually happened, someone or something had to light the match. I tend to believe that. Science and religion don't HAVE to be opposed....

I’m not going to read the other comments till I I make mine… I don’t want anyone to influence what I’m going to say…

I was taught to be a Christen… I was raised in the church and had been very active as well.. I served on boards, and taught a class and was on task forces to plan state wide weekend youth conventions. I even sang in the church quire… However, I was the one that usually started a debate about some passage that I had a problem with the interpretation of. Anyway…. I’ve had periods of time where I left and came back to the church… As for now I hadn’t been in years… However, I have my beliefs and I also don’t push them on anyone… However, when it comes to religion, there are so many and you just seem to pick the one that fits.. Like it’s a hat or something…I guess that’s where I run into my problem…I guess that’s why they call it “beliefs” and not “know for sure“…LOL..

However about if there is a God, or Higher Power… Well, I can’t speak for anyone but myself. I say yes there is… I can feel it.. Like it’s part of me…it’s just knowing… I don’t know how to explain it. However, there’s this feeling like there has to be something more… God, Goddess, or some kind of Higher Power… God could be just a huge mass of energy, but it’s just is.. I feel it and it feels like it’s one with nature and all things…. I pray to God as I know him to be… My idea of God.. I don’t think are minds can even comprehend the magnificence of what God is… Unfortunately people will discount what they cannot understand. To truly open your heart and mind to something that can’t be completely understood is just to hard for many to handle…

Well that’s my take on things…
I’m not open to a debate so this is it… I’ll not say anything more on the subject…
I hope I didn’t offend anyone…

OR believe that we're living a meaningless existence?[B] I believe that as long as I HARM NONE here I have done what is right ... and that there is a higher power that to us is indescribable and to even attempt to do so is folly and to attempt to dictate what it perceives as good or evil is ludicrous..we shall never truly know till we are no longer of this earth .. btw I love your questions .. NEVER stop questioning life.. for how will anyone learn unless they do.. THIS life is all about learning ...
