Or the day after the day before......
The thing about being on a boat like this is that on occasion we do get to have the occasional good day at work every now and again.
Those of you who will have read my blog from earlier today without knowing my situation would be surprised to learn that that was a day at work.
As was today.
In fact we had some work to do today, just checking systems and the reciept of some frieght, and come mid afternoon we were told we would be sailing at ten in the eveing, but until then the time was ours.
So, we got our stuff together and went for a walk. The plan was quite simple, find a quiet bar and have a couple of sociables and just have some hair for the dog, and then head to TGI Fridays for something different for dinner.
Don't get me wrong; to have someone cook our every meal, and wash up as well is something that most people would love to have. But having no say in what or when we may eat is not as good, and so the chance to have something out of the ordinary, in as far as lunch and dinner on a Sunday is to be grabbed with both hands.
So, we sat in an Irish bar; just about every European town or city now has by law an Irish bar, with faux fittings and cod Irish music blasting out. Bergan is no different and so far we have found three of them in just the centre of town alone.
So, Wayne and I sat down for a quiet beer or two, and all was going well until some of the younger members of the crew came in. And joined us. And so the quiet part of the afternoon went to the wall; as did the drinking a pint or two. And so began a tour around the Irish bars of downtown Bergen. Nothing wrong with that at all, and soon stories and some very un-pc jokes began to be told.
Come five and the hunger pangs began and so we headed to TGIs. Sadly we were sat in the family area; and may I apologise right here for the scenes that followed and the use of some very anglo-saxon language. Hopefully some junior members of the Norwegian people failed to understand some of the things being said.
It was whilst we were waiting for the starters to come that someone had the bright idea of cocktails. The result of cocktails on those who are already tired and emotional after a hard nights whatever has yet to be fully investigated. But the quest for the most effeminate drink was a close run thing, but the amount of tequilla in some of them meant soon heads would be spinning.
Anyway, no one could say that TFIs is a place of high cuisine, but somehow a meal for 6 people with just three drink each; two courses and no wine came to £371, or £742!!!!
Oh, how we laughed. A simple Mai Tai came in at £10/$20, and something a bit more complicated like a Long Island Iced Tea at a pound or two bucks more.
No wonder our server was so pleased to have some Brits come in on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
And now we are sailing up the fjord back out to open sea; not that there is much chance of working for the next 24 hours; but it does stop us spending money fater than we can earn it; which is something I guess. I am guessing that we will be at sea at least until next weekend, and maybe beyond, and so the time passes on our life on the ocean wave.
