The neighbors thought I was crazy. There may be some truth to that actually.
There we were, outside, standing in the rain, laughing.
It was the middle of summer, and it was one of those hot summer days followed by cool rain as the night drew closer. The sun was shining and the wet drops fell from the sky.
I remember as a kid wanting so bad to go outside and play in the rain. For whatever reason, that wasn't allowed at my house. Well, now that I make my own decisions, I think it's exhilerating to play outside in the rain!
I took his hand and we ran outside, barefoot, jumping in the puddles, kicking water on eachother, laughing. Chad and I look up as we heard Margaret say, "What are you two doing"? Margaret was the neighbor. She raised her arm, gave us one of those flaps of her arm as to say, "You're crazy", and closed her door. Chad and I laughed so hard! Doesn't she know we were doing what made us happy?
If I wanna play in the rain damnit, I'm gonna play in the rain! If I wanna have a pajama party with my girlfriends, damnit I'm gonna do it! If I wanna buy shoes a size too small cuz they're sexy, damnit I'm gonna buy em! If I wanna play hopscotch with the neighbor kids and draw it with sidewalk chalk, I will! If I wanna eat an ice cream cone while in my business suit when the rest of my coworkers are having salads, damnit I'm gonna have ice cream! If I wanna bake chocolate chip cookies instead of cut outs at Christmas time, I will! Oh my gosh, the list goes on and on and on.
My point is this; I "choose" to do in this life what it is that makes me happy. ME. Sure, I'll do for others, because in pleasing them I as well please myself. Bottom line though is we are not responsible for anybody else's happiness. Even our kids. We can give them the tools of life, but it's up to them to work with them.
What are you waiting for? Someone special to come along and give you the happiness you so deserve? Forget it. It's a lost cause. When you find happiness within yourself you can then offer yourself to others. You can't attract what you can't give off. Make sense? Think about it, it will eventually sink it.
Yes, we've all heard it said 1000 x before. Life is so short. Indeed it is. Tomorrow will come and go and you will ride the waves of the day. The next day passes, and so on and so on. Pretty soon you find yourself aging, the years have passed you by. Do you have regrets? Do you wish you would have done something you always wanted to do? ... do it. Don't wait for your tomorrow's to come, they may pass you by before you make the decision to do whatever makes you happy.
This blog was inspired by Suzz who lost a very dear friend a few days ago. Suzz and I are the bestest of friends, and we talk every day, sometimes for hours. Why? Because she makes me happy, and vice versa. A hand to hold onto when I need one, or when she needs one. She told me on the phone something that I said to her, "I'm gonna blog this tonight." From her and I, don't waste another day. Don't let time pass you by. Smile, be happy, go about life with love in your heart. We honestly don't know when our days here will be over. Don't have regrets, I know we won't.
Life is about choices and decisions. Make the choice here, now, to move on with your life. To take those risks, to reach out and try something you've always wanted to.
May your week be filled with happiness and peace.

I love standing out in the rain also... and tons of other things you mentioned and as you said, no one else is responsible for creating your happiness. This depends only on you and what you make of your choices in life.
Great blog...

You just brought back one of my kids fondest memories...the day we all played outside, got soaked to the skin and up our nostrils, and challenged the wind and MamaNature. Our neighbors thought we were nuckin futz, but just how many chances do most kids get to laugh and splash and literally FEEL a hurricane?
They treasure those kinds of memories, even today, in their "old age".
(OK, so it wasn't a BIG hurricane -- we were inland, in Connecticut -- and I made them stay away from the big trees and the power lines...but the overflowing brook was really cool. It went from six inches deep to all of about 10", though to hear it today, it was a mad raging torrent )
I think the smartest thing I ever did was to teach those two that they had the freedom and right and even the responisibility to choose to ENJOY life...and that's called LIVING.
Sounds like you're doing the same kind of thing, TBA

Absolutely wonderful... and the legacy will live on as Chad then teaches his own to dance in the rain. One small step at a time we will change the world!
