Chapter 5

My name is Jolene…Jolene Garrison but I like Missy better so you can call me Missy. And you?”

Bowing slightly he said, “Jason Rolston at your service…some call me J.R. but you can just call me anytime you need me.”

We laughed as our eyes met and what I saw there briefly made my heart skip a beat…or two. An awkward pause followed as we faced one another then he broke the silence with a smile and offered, “I have a bottle of chilled wine in my ‘fridge…would you do me the honors of sharing a glass or two with me?”

For a moment fear pierced my heart, not fear of him but fear of what was stirring inside of me. He was a man, a handsome, sexy man and that could only mean trouble and I’d had my fill of that. Yet as my head screamed “NO, NO, NO” my heart beat a firm “YES” so I smiled and nodded.

Locking my door behind us, Jason took my hand as we crossed the alley and entered his private back yard through his garage. I stopped short as I gazed at its beauty. Flowers were everywhere, in flowerbeds and hanging pots. Neatly trimmed shrubbery and flowering bushes smelled sweet in the night air.

A lovely patio set was tucked in the corner on tiled inlays…its umbrella just reaching a tad above the privacy fence. That smoke that I’d so grumbled about didn’t come from a regular grill but from an elaborate brick fireplace with a cooking grill. Guiding me to a chair at the patio table he then disappeared into his house and soon returned with a bottle of wine in an ice bucket and two wine glasses.

With much ado he popped the cork and poured the wine. Then lifting his glass for a toast he said, “To my new home, my new neighborhood and to Missy…may we grow in friendship, dance under the stars and write our own story, together.” I was impressed to say the least and lifting my glass to touch his I said a silent prayer to God to watch over my heart that was rapidly spinning towards this charming man.
