I travel quite extensively for about 4 months out of the year all over the world. During these periods I have to deal with some rather awkward hours here and abroad. I often don't get in here in the States until the wee hours which I thank god for 24/7 stores and eateries.
True story. I'm standing in line behind a woman at checkout. The woman appeared to be well kept. Nice finger nails, hair and dress. When it comes to pay her bill she whips out what appears to be a credit card. I've seen food stamps before and was unaware that the State of Michigan had switched over to a debit card system for lack of better words. I had only a few item's so I was out pretty quickly to catch this woman leaving the parking lot in a decked out Cadillac Escalade.
Washington D.C. ground zero for leadership of the free world is mostly ghetto. For those who never have been there it's actually shocking.
Detroit, Michigan 80% of the city, ghetto. Only 21% of students graduate.
Atlanta, Georgia ghetto.
Newark New Jersey, ghetto
This is the short list. Let's learn something from other minorities in our country such as Mexicans, Muslims, etc. Why are they successful. 2 reason's. (1) they heavily stress education (2) build economies with in their own communities.
People call me racist, judgmental, living in the stone age, etc. and not one of these people I'm willing to bet ever attempt to look at problems in the true light that they are.
I'm a realist, fantasy land don't exist here. This country is in some serious trouble gang. You can choose to click your shoes 3 times in hopes the problems will go away but they are not. They are simply going to get worse.
This bullshit that get's shoved down your throats in the public school system and media is going to bring this country to it's knee's and soon. A society can't continue to grow and prosper with this type of mentality and ideology being shoved down people's throats.
The responsible people in this country are quickly becoming the minority and when that line is crossed all hell is going to break loose. Crazy? here's some facts;
- 300 billion dollars to bail out irresponsible home buyers.
- Total cost of welfare from 1996 - 2000 on the State and Federal level, 2.38 trillion dollars. In 2000 the cost of welfare was double that of the military.
- In 30 years the United States public school system went from #1 in the world to 23rd.
- In prison today in America, 2.2 million people. At a average cost of $88.00 per day, you do the math.
- Average cost per public school pupil per year, $10,000.00 and there not getting any smarter, there getting more illiterate. $3,000.00 more then a private school.
- Each year 750,000 teenagers ages from 15 - 19 get pregnant. 9.1 million STI cases per year among teenagers 15-19. Black teenagers have the highest pregnancy rate, 134 - 1000. Nearly triple of any other race.
Government subsidies per year for Ethanol $11 billion dollars and producing it pollutes and erodes the environment more then fossil fuel.
I could go on but get you get my drift.
In closing,
I wonder what all you love thy fellow welfare recipient, love thy fellow global warmer and non-judgemental types are going to do when the shit hits the fan here in a few years. When reality comes knocking at your door one early morning and you can't find your magic shoes.

Wow, I thought you were describing someone at the Pueblo Supermarket in the Virgin Islands.
Do you have a viable solution of how to make the welfare system work for those that are honest and genuinely need the assistance? How would you revamp the administration and enforcement?
And isn't it up to the local school boards to see that their schools are operated at the same level as private schools? Maybe that's the difference between locally funded and administered versus State funded schools...I've only had experience with a local school system.

Do you have a viable solution of how to make the welfare system work for those that are honest and genuinely need the assistance? How would you revamp the administration and enforcement? Enforcement. (1) Need boots on the streets checking for abuses. (2) In an effort to stop the proliferation of welfare and poverty we may need to pay or give incentives to those not to have children or no more then one. If your already on welfare what the hell are doing having more kids. (3) We need to define a abusive parent(s). Is physically harming a child any different then bringing one into a life of poverty. Meaning, statiscally speaking almost all these children will end up just like their parents, impoverished and on government assitance. Maybe some need to go to jail. (4) We need to make some hard choices with our laws in relation to teenagers. Does a 15 year-old truly have a right to bring children into the world that has no viable means of supporting it. (5) Education. There is not much we can do at this point with adults hence, need to start with the kids. Proven fact, the more educated you are, the better choices you make. A 21% graduation rate such as in Detroit is a tragedy of immense proportion. This should have never been allowed to happen nor continue. (6) Leadership. Someone needs to step into the black community and bring this crap to a stop. 70% of black children are freaken fatherless. The preganacy rate nearly 3 times any other race. The ratio of black impoverished are far greater then any other racial minority. (7) We as society need to stop sexing up these kids.
And isn't it up to the local school boards to see that their schools are operated at the same level as private schools Well it should be but the unions, special interest groups and the ACLU run the public schools. That's like using the excuse General Motors agreed to these ridiculous U.A.W. contracts when the alternative was being shut down from strikes.

You are absolutely correct. It's a shame that people have become so politically correct in this country that they are afraid to even mention the broken welfare system. And the solution is simple. They need to start handing out condoms and birth control meds at every welfare office. And right next to the box with the free birth control there needs to be a HUGE SIGN that reads..... NOTICE: if you become pregnant while on public assistance you will immediately loose all benefits!!
They are having kids when they are on welfare because we are allowing it to happen, we are actually promoting it!! When they have more kids we give them more money! It is our own dam fault for encouraging irresponsible behavior. If we start cutting them off if they get pregnant this shit will stop fast!!

LG, they got embarassed using the food stamps that had to be torn out of the booklet. They demanded and got what looks like a credit card. The funny thing is that sometimes the checker at the grocery store wants a number from the card and then all know what kind of card it is.
I can spot a food stamp card everytime. It looks different than a regular credit card. I have followed them out of the store before also, and saw them get into their fine cars.
Food stamps is and has always been a racket. They used to sell their stamps. Now they have to go to the store with the person they are selling them to. They get half price for the stamps. Well why not, they need cigs and booze.
Kudo for you.

Greetings LR,
While I do agree with almost all of what you have addressed in your blog, I did want to point out that when it comes to food stamp recipients, looks can be misleading. Not every well dressed person making purchases with food stamps is scamming the system. Some might be doing shopping for a recipient in genuine need who has no transportation. Some might have good incomes but be eligible for food stamps due to the fact that they have foster children (which are supported by the states). Some could be recent victims of domestic violence, are quite poor, but received those clothes through DONATIONS so that they could obtain employment, etc. etc.
I also personally know that some poor people indeed can and do have some well to do family or friends.
But I digress, I'm sure there is some fraud & scamming going on, but nobody can assume that EVERY well dressed person you see using them is scamming-- even if they are seen driving away in an Escalade.
Excellent blog.

I have to agree also with Single, not everything is as it seems. Maybe the woman just had some serious surgeries, or lost her husband and has tons of bills, or is disabled in some way that has drastically reduced her earnings. Should she sell her car if it's all paid for? Should she sell her clothes if she had nice ones before the devastation of maybe loosing her home? No one knows what people are going thru, maybe trying to look nice is the only thing she can do right now to feel kinda normal. I don't judge people that way. It's like using the handicapped space, after I had three back surgeries and could barely walk, more or less carry packages, just because I didn't "look" handicapped, it was in great pain others didn't know about. Some people can't breathe after walking long distances but don't "look" handicapped. I don't use it anymore as I am healed, but for awhile it took all I could just to walk short distances and some shouldn't judge so quickly. tc Lost
