I was copying my blogs from this account into word documents pending it's closure and I came across the one I wrote about a man I met on this site who seemed way too good to be true.

>> ONE OF LIFE'S MYSTERIES <<

When he first came in contact with me he didn't have any pictures posted but informed me in his first email they were being approved as I read. He'd posted them at the weekend so it would take a little longer for them to appear. I wasn't bothered either way, I'd had a stream of UK men suddenly interested in me, most of which were way too far away and although this guy was a little closer in distance I wasn't particularly moved.

However, I'm always friendly towards anyone on this site who is in the UK, we have to stick together, especially as there are some pretty toxic folk on this site from time to time from all areas of the globe. So I replied and gave him some advice about internet dating because he'd asked me to.

The rest of the story is in my previous blog but not quite. What I left out was the fact I was talking to a friend on messenger one day. She asked me about "The Fireman" and how things were going. I had a few positive things to say but for some reason I wasn't feeling it. You know that tingling in your gut that tells you something exciting is about to happen. Even though he said all the right things, had the right amount of sweetness and restraint, it just wasn't floating my boat. At the time I thought it was simply past experience making me cynical until I got a chance to meet him. Now I realise it was so much more than that. During my conversation with my friend I had a lightbulb moment, a cosmic flash that told me the Fireman was awfully similar to someone else I'd encountered on this site a very long time ago, someone who had rocked my world and for all the wrong reasons. I will refer to him as The Fake.

The main similarities between The Fireman and The Fake, apart from the working class charm were as follows...

Firstly, his job - he worked shifts - he could use this as an excuse at any time for being unavailable on line or alternatively appear on line at peculiar times of the day.

Secondly, he was ill - "I've been signed off work for three weeks with a man-eating virus". This is also a very good excuse for not being there.

Next he told me he was having problems with the power supply in his area. Apparently the electric company was doing major work in his area. One day he had been left with no power at all and two small boys to look after. The poor love!

On top of all that he was also having problems with his internet service provider which left him with intermittent service. What's a guy to do?

The main similarity between The Fireman & The Fake was they were both very keen to meet quite quickly, but the illness was getting in the way.

The first guy took my phone number and called me, the second had it too but never used it - in fact he never acknowledged receipt of it - most guys text me immediately once they have it.

The Fake had a fantastic way of disappearing in a dramatic puff of smoke and then returning with some wild tale of why and how sorry he was. The Fireman disappeared just as mysteriously but failed to appear again even two months later.

It's quite possible these two were one and the same. Not that it makes one ounce of difference to me either way, but it's certainly an example of how I need to listen to my instincts. I remember saying to a number of people that the Fireman seemed perfect for me but for some reason I couldn't get excited about it. I didn't even feel the excitement when we chatted on line, even though he was saying all the right things and my mind was telling me to go with the flow of it all.

So no harm done, but I do worry about new people on these sites who don't have the wealth of experience I have. If I can be fooled to the point where I give my mobile phone number to a possible fake, then what chance do unsuspecting newbies stand?

I hesitated whether or not to post this. My life is going in a whole other direction now, somewhere I can leave all the fakes behind. I guess I just wanted a certain person to know that he didn't fool me, not completely anyway and that I'm sorry for the likes of him who live virtual lives because their real lives are so empty. I also hope this will be a warning to new people on this site who might read this blog, or even those who are currently in touch with someone who seems almost too good to be true...

Trust me, if this is the case, then they generally are! We can find someone who is perfect for us, I know I have now, and the reason I know is that I have no doubts - he gives me no reason to doubt him.

When in doubt GET OUT!

yp, it is hard enough to make contact, let alone be taken for real anymore. the fakes make it a lot harder to actually meet someone for anything than it has to be.

good luck with your future

I chatted to someone a couple of years ago and guaranteed every night
following a visit to the pub, he had a storm which cut his electricity supply.

I later sussed that this was the point at which he fell off his chair pi$$ed.

I don't understand why people want to deliberately be fake. Don't they want to eventually meet someone, then what would they do? Maybe they just want to see how many women they can get to like them and keep a tally. Whatever the reason, it's sad ppl get took this way,, I know it happens with both men and women. Glad your life is headed in a new direction, take care Lost
