Yes folks, we are here in the holiday city of sunny Beregn. Apparently, the rainiest city on earth; or so the locals would us believe.

So, it came as no surprise to find that as we rose at breakfast this morning, the sun shone like a great big ball of fire kept there by Gods will alone and not physics.

Anyway. We are in port not to admire the views, but for work. We have much new equipment to fit, and long hours are ahead of us.

Only the small army of spanner wielding guys we were expecting to run up the gangplank as we docked were not there.

They turned up several hours later. Something about the hotel, bars and beers.

Anyway, still many hours work time ahead lifting the old stuff out and the new kit on board.

And then the crane broke.

The driver stood on the quay shrigging his shoulders; because that always helps.

The decision was made; beer o'clock. And we headed into the patying town of Bergen once again.

For a change we headed to a park first. Because, this is just amazing; when we have the crew change next Wednesday, the Foo Fighters are playing the park nearest the dock. And we so want to go along and see the band, and watch the pretty girls. So, we thought we would check it out. And even if we don't get tickets, we could stand on the deck and listen to the show.

Oh, lucky us.

And then we hit the bars. Well, our favourite Irish bar forst of all. And the ladies keep fit class was leaving as we sat on the pavement drinking our ice cold beers. There are worse ways to spend the evening, I believe I may have said that before.

We then went for a walk and ended up at a bar/resturant called Dickens'. I don't believe the man himself has eaten there; not at hose prices anyway. We sat outside nursing our beers and watching the world and his wife pass by.

And then it hit me; two years ago this week I began work delivering really horrible chemicals for poor wages and long hours. By the time I got home I was tired and had enough energy to get up the stairs for bed. Weekends I was so tired I did nothing but watch sport.

And I thought I was happy.

Tonight we sat at yet another harbourside bar, watching the sun set on a fabulous scene and the tourists wander by, and all shape and sizes of humanity pass by. And here was I; and my friends, getting paid for being here.

And we have four more nights in port.

Thats going to cost some money.

Anyway, we have decided between the four of us to buy a round each and so not to spend so much cash up here. I did get hungry, and so decided to enter under the golden arches and have a Mc chicken sandwich and fries. Nothing too expensive; I was being careful.

Or so I thought.

£8.

$16

for maccydees.

I ask you.

At least the views are free, and the sunset was really special tonight as the sky to the west turned all coulours of red and purple. And not a breath of wind stirred the water in the harbour. And the scooner glided past taking more tourists out into the fjords to see the colours of evening.

It was ten to midnight as we made our way back from the music bar.

Again.

And it was still quite light.

Next week after the crew change we are heading back to Tromso and the arctic circle and 24 hour sunshine.

Stay tuned, folks.
