My mom loves to crochet and she had seen a picture of an afghan that she wanted to do. She's not real computer savvy so she called me and asked for me to search for it and see where she could get the pattern.
I did a search and found it being discussed on various forums. The one she wanted is no longer in print and they have been selling copies of it on Ebay for over $20. I emailed one of the ladies on the forums who said she had the pattern and explained that we couldn't afford to buy it at that price. I asked if she knew where we might find it at a lower cost. She actually emailed me the pattern.......OMG........I wasn't expecting that.
The only problem was.....she sent it as a .jpg and when I saved it to my computer, it didn't give me any option to print and I couldn't get in there to copy and paste either.(I know that some of you could probably tell me how to do it.......guess I should have asked first.......lol ) So, I began to hand copy the entire pattern (all 5 pages with 3 columns each) so I could type it and print it out. Most of the print was so small that I had to use a magnifying glass to read them. So for 5 days it has been read, write, proofread, edit, proofread, type, proofread, re-type and proofread for a 78" diameter Afghan. This is what it will look like when it is done...... Cathedral Rose Window Afghan . The catalog people say that it may come out in reprint in September but they can't guarantee it.
I thought I would go cross- eyed before I got done, an hour at the computer and an hour off helped, but I wanted to quit so many times......lol. I could have just forwarded it all to my mom and said "You're problem" but she doesn't have a printer and she barely knows how to open her email let alone save an attachment and view documents. That's why she asked me to look it up because she doesn't even know how to do searches right.........lol.
Yeah, my mom is a pain in the arse and I can only tolerate being around her for short periods of time, but I do love her and I know how much she loves to crochet. But after going thru all of this for that pattern........I told her she has to make me one in blue. I have no idea what I will do with it, but I think she owes me at least that much.

Car that's a gorgeous afghan. Do you think I could get your mom to make me one in pinks? Then we could use them next year in our cabin!

My mother used to crochet, and knit. She also made my clothes when I was little.
I wish I still had some of the stuff she did.

Way to go, CartCart! I'm the type of daughter that woulda said "You're problem" and not even looked in the first place whenit comes to stuff that really doesn't interest me. You truly DO have a heart of gold!
