To God or Not To God, That Is The Question?

So many incredible passionate emotions are possible with this subject of religion and people's beliefs. I read all over the place people actually getting angry and hateful over what others choose to believe. It is no wonder the world is in the shape it's in. Just look at what goes on in this tiny world of MD. It is fascinating to me. And a bit discouraging.

I think we should be able to accept someone for the way they treat others rather than what they think about religion. To me, the way someone treats someone else is a window into that persons true nature and character, and their religion becomes rather secondary. I don't care what a person believes or doesn't believe as long as they are compassionate enough to walk peaceably with those around them.
You wanna believe there is no God? Fine with me! I have no problem with that in the least. But how do you treat your children, or your friends? That is what I go by.
You wish to be a Mormon? Or a Jew? Or something else? Great! Same rule applies. The rest is none of my business, seems to me.
Show me what you believe with your actions...don't try to make me feel inferior or stupid. Especially when all you can do is post video clips of someone else acting stupid as part of your argument. That just don't make any sense to this ol' country boy. Wars are caused by such thoughtless behavior.

I have a way of life...a particular way of thinking that I enjoy, and usually keeps me out of the rough waters concerning what a person should or should not believe. I have my own beliefs. And rather than try to make someone or force someone, or belittle someone into seeing it my way, I just try to live my life according to those beliefs. I try to let my behavior show exactly what I believe.

I find trying to force or belittle someone or trying to make someone feel like they are wrong, is wrong in and of itself. It just doesn't make sense to me. Why do believers try to force someone to bow? Why do non-believers try to make others feel inferior? Neither really knows anyway.

I think any normal thinking Martian, looking down on this planet, and listening to these "knowledgeable" people on either side must wonder why are they wasting so much time and effort spouting off "facts" that really, in the end, they know very little about. They are just repeating what they have been led to. What they think they and only they know. Shame on either side if ya ask me.

Contrary to what some of you are thinking right now, I am publicly not trying to join either side. Like I said before, I have my belief system solidly intact. But I don't pretend to know all about either side either.. At least not enough to where I would feel comfortable saying with absolute certainty, in public, at the expense of someones beliefs...that my way is the right way. I find that practice rather tiring and intrusive. But I can live my life in such a way that would show you what I believe. And that to me is everything.

Love is a universal emotion. It is a healing emotion. It is a verb.
It is what you do that is important. It is they way you treat others that is important. If you choose to live with peace in your heart, no mater what it is you struggle with as far as a personal belief system, everything else will be made known to you in time. We are all here....each with an allotted amount of time. Why waste it arguing over something we really don't understand? Why not just choose to let the mystery be, live our lives with respect and dignity, and talk about something that is really gonna solve some real time problems.

I sing a song once in a while that I think sums it all up pretty well for me. I am sure it will NOT sum it up for some of you, and it is not meant to fix everything for everyone ( Did ya get that? )

However, I think there is a pretty cool message within. And if some of the folks, on both sides of the issue in this world would stop a moment, think about it, maybe we could even enjoy each other's company a little more while we do it. No matter which side you believed.
The song goes like this:

Everybody's wonderin' what and where they all came from.
Everybody’s worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
when the whole thing's done.
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Some say once you're gone you're gone forever,
and some say you're gonna come back.
Some say you rest in the arms of the Savior
if in sinful ways you lack.
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden,
bunch of carrots and little sweet peas.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory
and I ain't saying it ain't a fact.
But I've heard that I'm on the road to purgatory
and I don't like the sound of that.
Well, I believe in love and I live my life accordingly.
But I choose to let the mystery be.

So there ya have it. It's by a funny little singer by the name of Iris Dement. I like powerful little tunes. they can make you think, if you are open to that anymore.
Peace....

Ain't it the truth, let people believe the way they want. Don't be saying what they believe is wrong, heck you don't know if it is or not. No one has really died and came back, even tho some have "claimed they have". There are no "real" facts. So it doesn't hurt to let people live and let live if it makes them happy does it? To believe in something to give them hope and peace? If they feel it gives them a way to a better life, so be it. I'm with you Tunes tc Lost

Ya know, I look at it as entertainment....like most things. In my dealing with people for the last bazillion years, I've noticed a tendency for those of extreme faith as well as those with extreme non-faith based beliefs are equally as obnoxious as the other, both providing me with an entertaining guttural sort of cerebral guffaw.

The faith based nutjobs humor me in a "wtf is this pamphlet about" kinda way and the non-faith based zipperheads entertain me in the "wtf do you care" kinda way. I'll prod both into that scanner like head shaking rant...because as I've stated before, I have no evil twin, my evil is entirely DEFAULT by nature.

Society will never find a balance, it'll continue down its path of self-destruction, not only by the hands of those discussed in this blog, but by everyone else as well. Religion has helped in the decay of society, but it isn't alone by any means. I'm just here for the ride. If it lasts a long time, woofknwoo, if it doesn't and I get boinked in the ass by a semi later on this afternoon, oh well....I guess if I believed in some higher power, I'd be happy...not saying I don't because, well, that's just too fkng personal to share on a site like this, but I can be quite comfortable in the life I've led so far though, I'm not in the least worried...

I'll let the faith/non-faith windowlickers fight amongst themselves, laugh AT them and not with them....I see a pay-per view event in the making.

You've quoted one of my favorite Iris Dement songs - as it so perfectly describes my attitude toward religion.

As to why the following:
Why do believers try to force someone to bow? Why do non-believers try to make others feel inferior?

Fear and insecurity...

And it's all a moot point, as you say because:
Neither really knows anyway.

Another excellent blog, Mr Tunes...

I have chosen celibacy and alcoholism just for now, nobody can
really argue with that and I am certainly not going to argue with

The longer I'm around, the more convinced I become that this is all some space kid's ant farm...he got it for his birthday a couple billion years ago, got bored with it, and it's been stashed up in the attic...neglected for a long time!!

Or something like that...

Good blog and I really liked this

I to believe that if you try to live life well to the best of your ability that it will become known to you. Glad I have no clue who what or where the yuk is about but I love how you spoke your peace. ~*~

I am a believer and I have never told someone to bow. If asked, I will tell them what my belief is though. If they decide they want to know more, I help them, and usually this is where I find someone that is better at telling them than me.
The way to show people is to love. Love is what this whole universe is about.

I can't agree with you more.

None of should be rude to what other believe in.

Especially if your a Christian, which I am proud to say I am.

In my religion, we are suppose to inspire people to His word, not demean others who have a different point of view.

His greatest gift He gave us was freewill, which doesn't mean attack or abuse other people choices. We should respect their choice and usage of their freewill.

I prefer to look at results. If what you believe makes you act like a decent, upstanding person, then in your case, it's a good thing. For some people, that's Christianity. For others, it's Buddhism. For others, it's British Jedi. And for others, it's a nebulous, undefined set of principles that they've picked up from parents, teachers, close friends, and so on.

If what you believe makes you act like a damned fool, it's probably not the best thing for you. And to try to force your beliefs on someone else, when they're not having a positive effect on your own life, reeks of hypocrisy. And people quickly pick up on that.

So believe what you want to believe. But expect me to judge you by your actions, not by your words.

You're right...the problem is religion....

Religion is rules, do 'n don'ts, fightin' over who is right and who is wrong, whose denomination is gonna go to heaven and whose is gonna go to hell...GEEZ!!!!

Christianity on the other hand is a lifestyle and it's lived by demonstration...how you treat others...your honesty and integrity. A practicing Christian WILL NOT jam his/her beliefs down someone elses throat...they don't need to...they just live the example and let that speak for itself.

I am a believer and I have seen evidence of God in my life. I don't push my beliefs on anyone but I have experienced more non-believers making fun of me and trying to convince me they are right.

I refuse to argue with anyone...you do what's right for you and I'll do the same for me...what is so hard about that....?
