"Each of us has a spark of life inside us, and our highest endeavor ought to be to set off that spark in one another." Did you ever find yourself in a video store staring at the shelves of DVDs and wondering what to really watch? Action... Drama.... SciFi.... Comedy... Thursday found me in a quandary of that making. So by chance (and I think that this is one of the ways, I believe, God channels messages to me) I saw the DVD called "The Ultimate Gift".
What caught my attention other than the title was the picture of James Garner. You see, my heart holds a special place for this gentle man. I grew up watching him as Brett Maverick and fell instantly, madly, deeply in love. Brett was a man who made his way in life by using his wits to get him outta trouble and then in the Rockford Files, he continued along the same venue. I think it was that the roles he chose to play were those that most portrayed him as he is in life. Living life to the fullest and enjoying every second of it - hence the leading quote... to set off the spark of life in our own lives, but more importantly, to be the catalyst to finding and helping others do so.
This movie had me hooked in the first minute and the line up of actors is superb. They include Brian Dennehey, James Garner, Bill Cobb, Drew Fuller, Abigail Breslin, and Lee Meriweather. It is based on Jim Stovall's best selling novel of the same title. And it send a young man of privilege on an improbable journey of twelve tasks, which his grandfather calls "gifts" to challenge him to grow and change and discover that the true meaning of wealth is not always bankable. He finds his gifts of work, of laughter, of money, the gift of learning, the gift of problems (yeah, isn't funny to read that, but if you don't lose something you never really know the pain involved in doing so or the joy in reclaiming it), the gift of giving, the gift of love, the gift of gratitude, the gift of family, the gift of a day (many have wishes for just one more day), the gift of friends, and the gift of dreams.
It is so worth the time it takes to sit and watch, it will touch your life and maybe even set you on a journey to find your very own ultimate gift. But a caveat, have a supply of tissues. Every one of us has powerful gifts to share, find yours and share it with the world... you never know what can happen or how you might change!

I leave you all for the weekend with the lyrics:
Something changed inside me broke wide open all spilled out Till I had no doubt that something changed
Never would have believed it till I felt it in my own heart In the deepest part the healing came
And I cannot make it And I cannot fake it And I can't afford it But it's mine
Something so amazing in a heart so dark and dim When a wall falls down and the light comes in
And I cannot make it And I cannot fake it And I can't afford it But it's mine
