My aunt had a cherry tree in her yard. We would pick all the cherries and she would make pie and jam, I loved that time of year.

NP, the only problenm with leaving them for the birds is the mess they make afterwards, 
Invite the neigbors over and let them have all they can pick might be one way to get rid of some of them.

Remember sitting in the neighbor's cherry tree with their kids, we'd eat ever last cherry on the tree. No cherry pies for anyone.

 You've brought back a good memory for me.
When I was a little girl, I stayed with my Grandmother during the day while my mom worked. She had TWO cherry trees in her backyard. I remember quite well climbing those trees & sitting up in them picking & eating those delicious cherries. Then I remember my grandfather going on a tangent & cutting them down!  I'm sure my grandmother was in agreement, but I was awfully sad to see them go!

This morning I found cherry juice all over the front of the cupboards where they squirted juice when I was pitting them...worse than grapefruits! Now I know why my floor around there was sticky!! From now on all my cherries will come in a can, ready to eat and messy free!

The funniest story I've ever heard is one Hobbit tells of sitting in a cherry tree eating so many cherries he didn't even bother to get down outta the tree to poop out the pits!

AHHHHHHHHHh  I love cheeries.....money cant bribe me but fresh cherries ill do bout anyhting for,,,everytime i see them in storees i buy two 5lb bags,,by day two there gone,,,,as a kid we had sevral cherry trees on our place and when they came in season id sit in the trees with my pants down and a bb gun and eat cherry and fertilize soon after and shoot he compettiton with my trusty dasiy bb gun,
God I love cherrys,,i want buried in them
