This past April, My wife and I decided that it was time for a change. Same method, same results, right? So we packed up the kids and moved about 50 miles north to the hustle and bustle of St Petersburg Florida. I had lived there before, and had been making $200 a day driving a cab, so figured I could do that again, no big deal. We found a house that was nearly perfect on April 12th, and were moved in by the 15th. I ran around for the next two weeks seeking employment, to no avail, and finally ended up going back to My previous employers at the cab company, who welcomed Me back with open arms. They were delighted to have a returning employee, and hired Me, basically, on the spot. I was set to begin working on April 28th, everything was set. On April 27th, I was getting everything ready for My first big day at work. Ironing My clothes, finalizing the last minute details. At 11 pm, as I prepared to go to bed, plans began to change. My wife began tossing and turning in her sleep, moaning like she was in pain, and I knew that this was going to be the night. I began running around the house and preparing as best I could, because I knew the baby was on its way. (she was due on May 17th) I got the diaper bag with the kids' clothes in it and took it to the car, loaded both car seats, her bag of things she would need at the hospital. Everything in the car. When her contractions got down to 5 minutes apart, we headed out. It was 2:45 am. We drove south, heading back to Bradenton, where we had moved from, because she was in the computer system there, and we didn't know much about the St Petersburg area as far as where the best hospital to have a baby would be.We finalized a couple of plans as far as our future together were concerned, and called My mother, letting her know what was happening. She asked about the kids and what we were going to be doing with them. DUH. We hadn't even thought about that. She told us to bring them to her house as she lives not far from the hospital in Bradenton anyway. DEAL. Dropped the kids off at 3:30 with her, and headed for the hospital. Her contractions were 4 minutes apart when we got there at 4 am and checked her in. The nurses checked her out and admitted her 30 minutes later. The baby was definitely coming. YAY! To make a long story short, the baby, Jayden Melodie, was born at 2:32 pm on April 28th, 2008. I was unable to start working until May 2nd, due to various problems afterward. I worked for the company for a two week period and in that time made an entire $75 over and above what was required to keep My cab on the road. Uhhhh... $75 isn't going to pay the rent and utilities and keep groceries on the table. We were staring down the loaded barrel of eviction proceedings, this even after explaining the problem of starting late to the landlord. Eventually it came to the choice for the landlord of either evicting us, or helping us somehow. Hw chose to help us, fortunately. He called Me on Saturday, the 20th (?) and asked what we were going to do. I explained to him that we were going to return to Bradenton if I could sell My suv. He decided that if we could be out by the following Weds, that he would forego the payment to his lawyer to file eviction proceedings and instead return that money from our deposit to us as a bonus to help us get started back in Bradenton. I am SO blessed sometimes. We sold the truck, and got everything out of the house for our return trip to Bradenton, with a LOT of help from My family. We found an apartment back there, and that is where we currently reside. Now for the REAL problem..We have been back for three weeks today, and on such short notice had to take an aparment where the rent is due weekly. Most of the utilities are covered in the rent, all except cable. We're paying $275 a week. In the month we were gone, My previous employer had already replaced My position and is not hiring any more at the present time. None of the other cab companies in town are hiring either, nor is anybody else at present. Everyone is hiring the school kids coming in to work through summer vacation, and My wife and I have really no idea what we are going to do, or where we are going to go. When we tried to find assistance, everyone we have spoken to told us to talk to someone else, who told us to talk to someone else who sent us back to the first people we talked to.. It is maddening, as well as confusing. I have tried everything I can possibly think of to find employment, and barring that, to sell every item I possess of value to keep a roof over My families heads. Now I have hit rock bottom. All funds are depleted, everything of value is gone, and I have no idea what the future will hold for the 4 of us.. Still I pray. Heres to hoping.
