I was thinking today, when was the last time I saw the dark.
And stars.
I am pretty sure it was when I was last home in May. Quite an odd feeling never seeing night time and stars. It's not even dark enough after sundown for the evening star to come out.
This time last year I was in West Timor, well off the coast of anyway. And I used to love to just go on deck and see the milky way spread across the sky. Sometimes with the occasional island visiable if there was enough light. In the sea of course.
But being so far north, we don't get night now, just twighlight. Maybe dusk. The sun sets after midninght and rises less than two hour later. We watched the midsummer sun rise yesterday, deep red out of the ocean. It was 02:45.
I'm dreaming of looking at the night sky on some frosty clear night back home. But for now I'll make do with the Nordic summer and it's endless light.

Someday I hope to experience what you are seeing in the far North. Thank you for sharing your descriptions.

I know that feeling. I remember my first trip to Alaska. And, it didn't take me long to realize that, whether it gets dark or not, I must get my sleep. I remember a group of us standing outside, in the middle of the night, waiting for it to get dark. At around 4 am, I think, it got "dusky"...and, that was it....the rest was the start of a new day. I was TIRED on that new day.
We also did some white water rafting down the Tanana River...at 10 pm...in bright daylight. As a matter of fact, when we arrived back at the Denali Cabins, sometime after midnight, we were chastised strongly, by those who had been awakened by our playfulness and chatter enroute back to our cabins. In the daylight, we were totally oblivious of the time.
Sweetie, you bring back some great memories with your writing. Now, I'm wondering if it will get dark in Norway, Sweden or Denmark? Will I see any Northern Lights, or are they strictly Alaska? I never got to see them in Alaska.
