As an activist, there is a constant dread of the human condition…the anger, the vitriol, the dysfunction, the scape-goating, the masking and the constant justifying of violence of all kinds, emotional, mental and physical…all the junk of human life that seems to suffocate so much of the beauty of both planet and persons.

An amazing place to live, and rather than find how to do it together…we try so hard to do it alone chasing false gods of security and meaningfulness.

And in the midst of my attention so often being pulled to the debris of human life, I am richly rewarded by the surprise of human life where our beauty as an animal of effort, goal, connection, response, redemption, and innocence are all made visible in some package that sends chills through me, and alights tears along my eyelids as I am reminded all of this is worth struggling for…

This young man once again…gives me chills…

To say it another way - I walked out on my deck this morning about 5:00 AM (letting my dogs out) Saw the sunrise in the east and said, "Thank You, God"

An excellent reminder of the satisfaction to be found when we see the big picture in small brush strokes.

Sally> Is sorta like that isn't it?

His relationship to his mother, and the heart-on-the-sleeve...affirming of who we are before we are afraid...

Buatu> In all sunrises..a 'thank you'...and the older we get...maybe a 'phew!'

Ms Geek> I'm not sure we can say Neal is a 'small' brush stroke...
