In some ways you and me are alike....we're two rebels questioning why society is the way it is. You flip off society by showing it on the outside...with the pierced eyebrow, tongue, etc...I try not to show it as much. I've learned that people will listen to you more if you look "normal". We both came from working class families and grew up in the country. We understand each other a lot more than I thought we ever could, and probably more than you thought we could.

The fact is though that I'm just an American girl. I tried for so long to think that I was different because I associated with so many people outside of my country, but I'm still just a red-blooded American. I was born in Jersey to a third generation immigrant father and a mother whose family has been here since the 1600s whose family helped settle this country. To be honest, I'm a Daughter of the American Revolution, though not officially. I listen to talk radio, I like some country music, I walk around outside with no shoes on, I tell ethnic jokes (including Italian and German jokes), I curse, I watch wrestling, I eat meat and I love it, and my favourite restaurant is Hooters. I like television and video games and shopping at the mall. I don't play any sports and I'm overweight. Being with you (and working hard as hell at it) has made me realise how much I love my country, even though someday I might be willing to leave it to be with you. Being with you has made me tear up hearing "Hail to the Chief" and "The Star Spangled Banner" because it has made me realise exactly where I come from.

You're just a regular guy. The kind of guy I thought I'd never want, to be honest. You're short. I always wanted tall and lanky. You're blond, I always wanted brunette. You have green eyes, I always wanted brown or blue. You drink a lot, I always associated that with cheating. You're just a regular guy who likes to be with his friends, watch sports, play video games, watch T.V., eat, sleep, and go to work. But you always make time for me, you always write to me to say goodnight, and you always call me when you can. You make me feel more secure than anyone I've ever been with, even though you live so far away. You are not the template I created for myself when I was a young child that's based off of one of my childhood heroes. You are better. You're sensitive. You're smart. You're worldly. You're mature. You're older than me, and have more experience. You need to feel needed, which satisfies my need to make you feel needed. You want to be with your friends, which gives me time to feel like I can be alone.

You're willing to cross an ocean for me.

I'm just an American girl....to so many people that is detestable but you love me for it. I don't understand it, but it means so much.

I don't know what I did to deserve you or to cause you to come into my life, but ... thank you.
