Mike Florio's blog on PFT today hints that Don Imus is dangerously close to stepping over the line once again. Part of the blog :
"Less than 15 months after losing his gig on WFAN and MSNBC for making racially charged comments regarding the Rutgers women’s basketball team, radio icon Don Imus has danced dangerously close to, and arguably over, the line again.
On Monday, Imus had the following exchange with Warner Wolf:
Wolf: “Defensive back Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys. Here’s a guy suspended all of 2007 following a shooting in a Vegas night club.”
Imus: “Well, stuff happens. You’re in a night club, for God’s sake. What do you think’s gonna happen in a night club? People are drinking, they’re doing drugs. There are women there, and people have guns. So, there, go ahead.”
Wolf: “He’s also been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.”
Imus: “What color is he?”
Wolf: “He’s African-American.”
Imus: “Well, there you go. Now we know.”

What if he's right......? I know that sounds stupid, but on the surface his comments make sense.
Let's face it, I only hear about the althlete's getting into this kind of trouble, repeatedly, who are ethnic, and play either football or basketball. (finger on side of nose)
I beleive that these results are just a merging of the statiscal base,,,,,and that thier is some other cohert responsible, but on the surface,,,,, his comment has statistical merrit, but common sense says he is full of shit.
I'm sure that if we look into the statistics past the main stream media reporting, we will find gymnists, kayakers, fencers, and hockey players having the same types of trouble with the law, repeatedly. (well, maybe baseball)
Perhaps it just has something to do with the whole gangsta culture, and really has nothing to do with color. Culture, not color.
The NBA put on full court press this year, to eleminate the gangsta image, and put in dress codes, codes of conduct, etc. This was done because their market share was going down and the base customer demographic was pulling away from them. (See, it's not about the roll models boys and girls,,,,it's about the revenues.)
Perhpas it is just a statistical annomilly because their are more black players than white,,,,,,,,
Perhaps it is just that the sports with the highest degree of current steroid use is involved,,,,
Or maybe it's just an inteligence thing...... what's the base average intligence of these knuckleheads when compaired to the rest of the professional athelete sample....
There are just too many variables to nail down,,,, but I'm fairly confident that race is not the determining factor, or we would have gangs of sprinters roaming the clubs and getting into public brawls.
When the base customers of sport teams, place a higher value on integrity than on their team winning, we may see some changes.
As far as Imus,,,,typical shock jock behavior,,,,,got to get back into the news to get them ratings up,,,,,,, revenue, not roll model. I beleive he intentionally throws these comments out, to stir the pot,,,,,,and get his face in the news,,,,and his show some free publicity.

In the fast moving banter style talk show, there is no time to run each word by a carefully chosen board of censors. They shoot from the hip, and sometimes make errors, socially as well as factually.
And other times old Imus hits the nail right on the head.
Who would listen to a slow moving, every word carefully weighed for political correctness, mathmatically precise, never offend anyone talk show?
Not me. How about you ?
