Anyone considering this process read on. A co worker of mine 61 yrs old, 5'5" 325 lbs had the procedure done Tuesday. Wednesday he was laughing and joking with the nurses. Thursday morning he was found on the hospital room floor, not breathing. Thursday afternoon he was dead. I don't know just what happened, but I found out this morning that on Monday he gorged himself all day. All day. I can't believe his doctor told him it was OK to eat like a pig the day before this operation. This is a risky procedure. If you are considering doing this, please get more than one opinion. And if you plan on pigging out one last time. do it a week earlier.

wow! i'm sorry for your loss of a friend. i was going to have it done myself. however, the doctor told me that i couldn't eat anything solid after 4 pm and nothing liquid after midnight the day before.
i didn't have it done. there were complications with the anethesia and they couldn't put me under.
however, in the past year, i've lost close to 100 lbs on my own by the grace of god. a few more lbs and i can have the surgery to have the excess skin removed.
i don't know why he gorged himself so. i'm sure his doc didn't tell him to do it.

Good for you Unicornlover. The fact that you have been able to lose 100 pounds on your own is a good sign that you didn't need to go the bypass method.

OMG… I’m so sorry to hear about this…
My friend had it done… a few years back. The one thing he should have been told was not to eat like that right before Any kind of sugary. Usually your told not to eat anything for 24 hours or more… She also had to go to group therapy classes before and after her sugary. If he was binging like that, his problem might have been more physiological and should have gotten much needed counseling before even making the decision to do this kind of operation.. Many view this as a quick fix… It is so… NOT! You have to change your whole way of thinking about food and nutrition. I’ve heard stories where some have had to go back and have it all over again because they stretched their stomach out and gained back all and more weight. There is risk with all surgical procedures.. Someone goes in for something they call routine and dies on the table…. It’s so very sad, but it happens..
I looked into this, but I was told I’m not more then 100 pounds over weight so they won’t do it… I’m under 5 feet tall and well.. At one point weighed almost as much as your friend. I’ve lost over 125 with out sugary. It took a long time, and I’m still working on it… I don’t consider myself to be on a diet… I either eat right or I have not so good moments.. Human! We all falter… however, you don’t let it get out of control..
Again I’m sorry for your loss… Take care!
