So, here we are back in Kristiansund undergoing repairs.
Not that bad a deal, really. We worked hard all day yesterday doing our repairs. But, as it had been decided to stay of the sift pattern, we began our shift to see the other shift walk off into town to hit a bar.
Grrrr.
So we worked for four hours finishing the job and clearing everything away.
And seeing the other stagger back after the compressed an evenings drinking into two hours.
Anyway, being out on the back deck all night meant we go to watch the full wonder of the Nordic sunset. It was everything you imagine it would be. Except it took something like four hours before the sun went below the horizon. There wasn't a breath of wind, and the harbour mirrored the sky perfectly. All pinks and purples. In fact it got almost dark enough for stars to come out, but not quite.
Not quite.
Half an hour later, sunrise began. The sky lit up with bright reds and vivid purples . It was quite something. And there was just the two of us to see it. As it got lighter, the rays of the rising sun caught moisture in a cloud and created a rainbow.
But not any normal rainbow; this one was pink. All pink. And mirrored in the harbour as well. As the sun rose more, the normal rainbow colours began to show through. And by four it was fully daylight again.
But the town still slept.
And it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Just to be able to sit and watch the changing colours of the day was a simple pleasure.
By six the early birds and bus drivers were about; and on ship people began to stir. Someone put on a fresh pot of coffee, and soon the smell of bacon cooking came up from the kitchen. Quite possibly the best smell in the world.
After breakfast, a large; no huge cruise ship came into the harbour. It seemed to be taller than the hills surrounding the town, and filled the harbour. It performed a slow reverse onto a small dock, and soon was disgorging thousands of tourists onto the streets of Kritiansund.
Kristiansund is a provintial town, with a few shops and a petrochemical museum. Soon throngs of cruisers were wandering along the harbour front, bored. A convoy of busses came to take them somewhere more interesting, and the town returned to it's quiet self.
But only two of us had seen that pink rainbow.
