Well, yesterday was a new experience. It has to have been the first fourth of July that I have spent sober since..........1998. While all the while having to sit and watch my brother sip down what smelled like a Jim and Coke. Not to mention those gay little fruit drinks he had before that. For the most part is was well worth it. I spent about two hours in the pool with my girls. My youngest can swin on her own with the use of one of those swimming suits that has the plastic floaties stitched in. So here is to a new start of staying sober and learning to enjoy my girls. Don't get me wrong, I still get away about once a week to work on my house and knock back a few, but none around my girls on their time. After I get finished with the house and the girls moved in I will no longer be allowed to have alchohol there which can only be a good thing. I missed so much of their life.I know I am not a great father, but I am tryin' to be a good one. There is no excuse for the way I was before, or any way to make it up to them, I can only give it one more shot. I give them all my love, but love doesn't make good parents. I am learning it takes more, so much more.I don't expect them to forgive me. I only expect them to love me. I just hope they make wiser decisions than I did.

I give them all my love, but love doesn't make good parents. Above all else, love is the greatest gift of all. Well, I think so anyways. Hang in there & keep on keepin' on!

They will love you not matter what. What does matter is that you realize your faults and are willing to fix them. They are young and for them the past will pass easily. It is the new memories that you are giving them that are of utmost importance.
You ARE a good father... and you are well on your way to becoming a great one.

It's great to hear you say you are trying to stay sober for your girls. It is okay to have a couple of drinks now and then, but if you have a problem with drinking maybe you should aviod it completely. You should try to stop now before they move in, maybe the stress of the new house and them living with you might force you to drink more. Please don't take offence to my comment, it's meant to help not piss you off.

Well, it's npt a new house just having to redue our old one. As for them livin' with me that's nothin' new either. Thanks. I have only had one comment offend me in the six months I've been on here, and that was do to the lady being misunderstood as to the current situations.

No smoking, no drinking, no wild one night flings. Well ladies, here's your man. If you don't pick him, then you aren't looking for a real man. And besides, ladies, don't you want to live a rich life, full of what a family should be. Instead of watching the vampire hunters come after me. Me, I'm used to being alone, I'm Dracula.

Glad you are getting things together. Yesterday was the first time in ages I did drink some wine. Went down to the lake, cooked out, did some fishing, and shot off fireworks till midnight. Had a real great time with family and friends. I haven't drank in a long while so figured a little wine won't hurt a thing. Didn't catch any fish tho, guess the fireworks were too loud, fed a bunch tho all my bait lol. tc Lost

you have to quit drinking for YOU. if you do it "for your girls," when they eventually do something that hurts you, you will have lost your reason to stay sober. doing it FOR YOU, will mean nobody can drive you back to it. good luck!!!!!!!!!

You know one thing that i have learned in my recovery is that you must do it for yourself. You have such a good job of becomeing a good father for your girls. You know what you need to do just keep doing it. Your girls will always give you the strength to get through it.
