Brings to mind the story of two Zen Monks posted below. Have a Peaceful day...
Tanzan and Ekido, were walking along a country road that had become very muddy after heavy rains. As they approached a village, they met a young woman who was trying to cross the road, but the mud was so deep that it would have ruined the silk kimono she was wearing. Tanzan at once picked her up and carried her to the other side.
The monks walked on in silence. Five hours passed, as they were approaching the temple, Ekido couldn’t restrain himself any longer. “Why did you carry that girl across the road” he asked. “We monks are not supposed to do things like that.” Tanzan replied “I put the girls down hours ago.” Are you still carrying her? Japanese master Tanzan, 1819-1892

Thats an oldie but goodie Zen story. I think I first read then when in high school, D. T. Suzuki I believe. Its about being in the moment. This also leads into the Zen story were a professor meets a Zen master. The Zen master pours him tea but keeps pouring until it spills over. The professor says "stop" and the master says, "like the cup you must empty your mind before it can be filled". The metaphor is to be open minded without preconceived notions making you unable to learn something new especially something as profound as Zen.

In Original Zen, (since there is no thing called Buddhist Zen) there is only one true existence, the present moment. The past simply no longer exist nor does the future as there is no future in reality, only the present moment. We simply live from moment to moment.
Tanzan admonishment posed as a question to the other monk was a reminder that the burden he carried in his mind about the girl should no longer exist because the past is not present in the here and now, is it?
