......Marine Scientists have known for some years... .......that water below a certain Depth..sems to Corrode shells ..as a result of .acid-from .organic matter ,,that floats from the surface ..to Deep Waters, ..Apparently green house Gases, turn the ocean s acid ..earlier than predicted . and it will affect Marine Life..according to Scientists. the acid in sea Water is powerful enough to dissolve the shells of sea creatures..? An American team has foundevidence that an "acidic,, tipping Point"..has been reached ,on the Continental shelf....along the North West coast of America.. .The work underlines a concern that man made emmissions, affect the worlds oceans,,,and Acidification...is a more direct way ..than climate change.. Paul Halloran of Oxford UNIv..uk .. sayssays , "the impact on tourism ..and Fisheries . may have Economic .consequences" A Team led by Dr Richard Feely..of US,s governments.National.Oceanic,,and Atmospheric.Admin.in Seattle..were not corrosive a century ago .. but are more acid now,,and can corrose shells,, Marine scientists knew for few years , but scientists..were worried that acid has washed up to the Continental shelf..where vulnerable organisms live Increased acidity..may affect ..growth and reproduction rates of Fish .too...

Same thing happened in the great lakes. Economies everywhere are hungry for energy especially here in North America. But, at what price? http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/monitoring/great_minds_great_lakes/social_studies/acid_rain.html "The majority of acid rain results from fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gases burned in industry, electrical power plants, and motor vehicles. Once in the atmosphere, these pollutants combine with moisture and interact with sunlight to form sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Tall factory smoke stacks discharge pollutants high into the atmosphere where winds carry the acids for hundreds of miles. Eventually the acids fall back to the earth in the form of rain, snow, or dust. Factors influencing how fare acid rain travels include wind speed, wind direction, and cloud chemistry. The effects of acid rain include: - Destruction of lake and river ecosystems. Fish cannot reproduce and soon die out when acid levels become too high in rivers and lakes - The metals enter the water and possibly contaminate fish, making them harmful for wildlife and human consumption
How can the Salmon find its way back to where it first came to life? through smell. I think Salmon will be affected as the level of pollution goes up.
http://wfrc.usgs.gov/outreach/salmonq&a.htm "How do salmon know where their home is when they return from the ocean? We think they can tell directions in the ocean by the earth's magnetic field acting like a compass. When they find the river they came from they start using smell to find their way back to their home stream. They build their "smell memory-bank" when they start migrating to the ocean as young fish."

interesting, but...the least of our worries. the 1 or 2 degree change in water temp in the last decade has wiped out entire coral colonies which are the nurseries of the ocean. Stands to reason the ph of the ocean would change..its more full of dead, decomposing stuff then ever before. Not to mention the crap we pour into by the boat load. Also as the ice at both poles melts it releases tons of fresh water in to the ocean as well as what ever is in that fresh water.
Imagine how the water will be off the coast of California next winter. with several years of serious fires and now no ground cover to absorb the rain...everything gets washed to the sea. All that burned debris will eventually end up in the ocean at some level. And as we pave over the earth more and more there is nothing to stop all our pollution from going non stop out to sea.
We don't need science to tell us we are slowly killing the planet, common sense is enough.
Now...lets all go and make babies and get this over with!
