It is so hard to see someone you love aggitated and worried, particularily when they cannot communicate fully what the issue is. As some of you know Kee aka that big white thang had his last heartworm injections last week. He has been recovering fairly well until Saturday afternoon. At that time he started showing some aggitation and anxiety. He would want to go out....we would take him out....he would do what he had to do, come in and 5 minutes later be fussing and whining to go out again. The pain medication they sent him home on did nothing to alleviate this and while it was becoming a bit annoying to me I am sure it was frustrating as heyull for him. I phoned the vet first thing this morning and they have added another pain medication to the one he is already on so hopefully that will make him more comfortable. Aggitation and anxiety can increase his heart rate which in turn could cause him to spill an excess of worms from his heart into his circulatory system very quickly which in turn could lead to an embolus and instant heart failure. In time this will all be but a faint memory but at the moment our main concern is to keep him settled, quiet, happy and let his body heal.

I hope your baby gets well soon.
Several years ago I had 2 dogs that had to go thru the heart worm treatment, and Dingo... the younger dog actually had to go thru 2 rounds of treatment. It was rough on both of them, and expensive to boot. My vet in NC said at that time to treat both dogs was going to cost $800 but cut us some slack since Dingo had to go thru 2 rounds.
Its hard on a dog. I don't know if the meds are atill the same, but they basically gave the dogs strichnine (sp)... to kill the heart worms... just imagine having that put in your body...... 
Hope he recovers soon......

I hope he will feel better soon poor little guy...this is something he will recover...right? 
I guess it's a good idea to give that heart worm medicine after all...I bought a year supply when I got my puppy...as it was cheaper to purchase it for a year than month by month from the Vet...I saw a picture in the Vet's office showing what heart worms look like and that was enough for me!

I may be a little goofy but I see no difference between a sick pet and a sick baby for neither can tell you anything..they are just helpless in their misery.
It is heartwrenching to have to stand by and do the best you can while feeling helpless yourself.
I don't have dogs....just cats that have been with me for nearly 8 years and I love them dearly. If someone here is giving you flack for caring for your pets then just blow them off....they aren't worth getting upset over.
Animal lovers are the best kind of people with big soft hearts and knows beyond a shadow of a doubt how our furry friends enrich our lives beyond description.
I wish your babies a quick return to health....and for you the strength to see them through.
