A bump in the road

My 13 day old grandson, Christopher is at this moment being transferred to another hospital where he can get help breathing that was not available at the current hospital. Realizing that this is fairly common for tiny preemies, I am struggling to hold my anger at this turn of events. In my previous blogs, I mentioned that Christopher had no apparent health issues other than being very small. He has now gained weight and is 2 lbs. 2 oz. My son and his wife have been going back and forth to the hospital and staying on top of his treatment. My son asked that a particular sedative not be given to Christopher because of the possibility of some very serious side effects. Even though it has been noted on his chart and his doctor has provided several alternatives for soothing him, the nurses have given him Ativan on four occasions saying that was routine. Each time, Christopher's blood gases have dipped dramatically after the medication was administered, but have been fine as long as an alternative was given. They have also been giving him formula and my daughter in law has delivered breast milk to them every day. When she asked why he wasn't given the breast milk, two different nurses said they didn't know it was back there. So now he is going to a more intensive facility. If you are a praying person, please keep Christopher and his family in your prayers. I am going there now to try to give them some support. Please pray for this grandmother that I can put aside the anger I am feeling and be able to help my children. Thanks for listening (reading) and thanks for your prayers.

I'm sorry to read things have not been going as well as expected.
Hopefully, in the new, more intensive facility he is being moved to, things will go better.
Of course, you all remain in my thoughts & prayers.
