Last week, I was listening to the 'easy listening' radio station and heard Natalie Cole's remake of her father's famous song Unforgettable. Yes, it's a fantastic song and it catapulted Natalie's fading career when they digitally merged an old performance of Nat King Cole and some new studio work with Natalie.
Certainly an emotional moment to reflect on. Although I hadn't heard any recent news, I couldn't help but think: Is she still riding the wave of her fathers fame?
I knew about Natalie's bout with drugs, emotional/psychological and financial problems and hoped she had overcome them.
This evening, in the Yahoo Entertainment section, Natalie made front page with the announcement she has hepatitis C.
Many years ago, a company I worked for lost the owner when he died from liver cancer, complications from having hepatitis C. At the time, I did some research and found it to be an uncurable disease.
I read Natalie's story and they claim she is now 'virus negative' and has an increased chance of a cure. That Yahoo story is linked: >> HERE <<
So, again I did some research and found conflicting information. Some websites say hepatitis C is curable and others say it's not.
In any case, I hope they find a cure for hepatitis C.
The story went on to say:
"Cole... has sold millions of records over her long career. She is due to release "Still Unforgettable," the follow-up to 1991's Grammy-winning, multi-platinum CD "Unforgettable ... With Love," on which she remade some of her father's classics, in September. I would have thought the record company would have told her 'enough' of riding on your fathers career, maybe it's time to stand on your own as a solo performer. Come back with some new material and let's make some hit music.
If she were in a room with Simon Cowell he would tear her to pieces and call her a washed up has-been. Then again, her soon to be released album may go platinum overnight. The music business is like that !
Get well Natalie...

It doesn't bother me she is remaking more of her father's old songs once again. You know the old saying "What goes around comes around." As for the hepatitis...which one was it Naomi Judd was sick with....& how about Pamela Anderson?

The CDC classifies Hep-C as treatable, but uncureable. Once found to be most exclusive to those with tatto's (the old dirty needle problem) it has branched out considerably to the point that the point of contraction isn't so clearly defined, making it all that more heartbreaking.
Sadly, the entertainment industry and profession has always been a nesting place for all sorts of "activity related" diseases. Certainly many reasons, both good and bad, but that desire for experimentation, thrills, something to do, and having way too much money to entertain such things put everything in place for an eventual train wreck.
Much like her father, it appears that Natalie will be the eventual victum of her own actions. How sad that such great tallent will be lost because of some of the very things that give them inspiration to soar so high and capture our imaginations....

Hep C is in epidemic porportions in the Untied States. It is treatable but not curable. The treatment can take the viral load down to nill, but it is always there. Hence the confusion as to whether it is curable or not.
It is a blood born virus and can live outside the body for up to 6 weeks, HIV only lives outside the body for aproximately 72 hours.
The current theory is it came to this porportion after the cocaine glut of the 70's, (it started showing up in many professions where there was alot of money handling; store clerks, bank tellers, etc). The theory being that all those bills that were rolled up and used to snort coke, and all those bloody noses from the crystaline form of cocaine got the ball rolling...... Paper cuts.
But it is how it kind of crept out of the "drug world" and dirty needles from tats. etc. Those people in professions that did would not think they were suspect became the biggest carriers. Husbands and wives sharing razors. Really who would think that if you cut yourself shaving that you needed to bleach the bathroom sink/bathtub/shower stall? Men and tools ...always a busted knuckle fromturning a wrench, how bout the next guy that come along with another busted knucle and they pick up the tool? Little things people don't think about, pitchng your toothbrush into the toothbrush holder after your gums have bled.
My ex was Hep C positive and we were together 5 years before he was diagnosed. I waited for 3 years after the divorce to go get tested because I had this nightmare vision of his steptic pencil on the bathroom counter, and all I could think of was "did I set my toothbrush on that counter"? Did I cut my gums with the dental floss and then pick up that toothbrush? But it turned out OK and I was not positive when I finally got tested. He just called yesterday and after the second treatment his viral load was down and he had maintained it for a year so they think he is in "remission".
I will say the treatment is almost as scary as the disease as one of the side effects is suicidal depression, and it is expensive. We had to petition Lily Rouche for a price waiver as when he first took the prescription to the pharmicist ...they said they wouldn't order it unless we agreed to apay for it. 9 thousand a month, after our insurance. That was 8 years ago. I hope it is more affordable these days.

One of my brothers passed away from hep-c April 23 2004 he was only 46..no its not curable and sometimes your only hope is a liver transplant my brother never made it to the transplant list and even if you are lucky enough to get the transplant you still have hep-c because its a virus but there are good meds to take if your body will let you because they attack your body just like cemo does cancer.. my thoughts sure are with her

So many people become famous because of who their relatives are, its the nature of the beast, look at Billy's daughter Miley Rae Cyrus, her dad got her started and she still is famous I think because of her dad. He's in many of her songs and I don't think her voice is that great. They are lucky I guess eh? tc Lost
