~~~~~~~~~ The American people strike me as a gentle people, compassionate and often ready to help others. Yet, they are very violent.
A short statistic:
Country............Yearly murders....Yearly murders per 100,000 USA......................19,650.....................7.4 Enland.......................681.....................1.3 Switzerland..................96.....................1.2
Note: A significant part of the murders in Switzerland are committed by foreigners. In the USA, most murders are committed by people coming from the same age group, social background and race.
There haven’t been any reported school shootings in Switzerland. Every able Swiss man over 18 has his full army gear at home, including assault weapon. Besides that fact, Switzerland has gun control.
My big question is: where does all the violence come from in the USA? .
People (like politicians) telling other people that they are being screwed. Life is not important in the U.S. any more. We kill the unborn and some people want to kill the old people who can't function
Sadly, abortions have the same legal basis and "make up" as in the USA. But people get "screwed" elsewhere, too.... .
I think if you look into it all, you'll find that most of the violence in this country occurs in urban areas...areas with a unique combination of social, racial and economic problems.
Ironically, some of the strictest gun control laws are in place in these very same areas.
Switzerland is the most peaceful European Country. My favorite.
I agree with your premise. If you compare the USA to a third world country our crime stats look good. \
Most of these murders occur in major metropolitan areas.
2007
Violent Offenses: 1,556,419
Murder: 38,034
Forced Rape: 97,228
Robbery: 461,211
Aggrav. assault: 911,167
Burglary: 2,356,114
Your murder rate is wrong because it doesn't include unsolved murders.
alive... and vinnyt...
England has some pretty big cities, too: like London and Liverpool, and probably a couple more.... yet, their murder rate is closer to the Swiss than to the American rate....
So.... what is wrong with Americans? Could it be that they think it's still the Wild West????? .
Long....
Your murder rate is wrong because it doesn't include unsolved murders. I got the statistics from an official Swiss site. They added in their notes that the Swiss actually included "murder by passion" in their count, whereas the Americans didn't. I suppose the numbers come from an "official international statistics exchange" between the three countries mentioned....
... and now you used up your only comment without commenting on the question: where does all that violence come from.... awwwwwww..... .
lets see,,,
# 1. in the larger US cities, if a person breaks into a home, the homeowner has nothing to protect himself. in switzerland, every man has an assault weapon. even a drug-crazy individual isn't going to break into a house, and threaten the homeowner who owns, knows how to use, and is willing to use his gun for protection.
#2. a great number of stolen guns in the US end up in gang members hands, to be used against law-abiding people.
#3. people in dead-end jobs, or in no job, have little, if any respect for the property of others, and are willing to use violence, even murder, to take it away.
#4. people growing up with video games, where points are awarded for killing the opponent. in the games, the lifes are restored to start each game. eventually the players tire of the playing, and do the real thing.
#5. the US press, and radio and television media, give the murderer excessive coverage, making the scum important to other scum.
i'm not sure, if it's # 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, or a combination of all five. or not...
I share your concern for this, as I'm sure most other's here, do as well. Two items that Switzerland and England don't have to contend with is; 15-20 million undocumented residents and a country sized drug factory sitting to their south.
Two items that Switzerland and England don't have to contend with is; 15-20 million undocumented residents and a country sized drug factory sitting to their south I don't know about England, but in Switzerland, especially in the bigger cities, are thousands of undocumented foreigners, also wonna-be refugees who are waiting for a decision, and a lot of refugees coming from war zones. Many of them come from war or civil war zones in the Balkans, North Africa and Black Africa. That is why the note to my statistic says that a lot of the violent crimes are committed by foreigners. In fact, there are so many refugees and refugees-waiting-for-a-visa, that they had to be moved into camps. Often, people from the opposite sides of a same war have to live together in the same camp, and violence ensues....
As for the drugs: the USA has the southern border where it mainly comes in. Switzerland has the Balkans right next door.... .
It's mostly the fault of the parenting in the previous generation. A large part of this mess started with the kids born to parents in the 60's and 70's who said they were suffocated in their youth and "freedom of expression" was the way they would raise their children. This brought about a total lack of respect for any authority whatsoever; teachers, police and even parents. Along comes wealth, politicians and lawyers and all of the political correctness that basically gives everyone a freedom to express and conduct themselves with little fear of retribution. The end result ultimately allows people to do whatever they want without responsibilty and you now have today's mess. It may be painfull but it's time to crack down and bring the nation into a position of a having a respectful moral code.
The violence comes from greed. It's that simple.
Over in Switzerland, they rarely have money because they are heavily taxed. However, the government takes care of their education, their health, and job entry. They also have the option of taking care of housing and food/gas expenses. They are relatively happy (I believe I read a statistic staing they were the happiest nation on earth) with their lifestyle, not denied an education nor denied a decent life. But the majority are denied a significant opportunity to become wealthy.
For england, I haven't read up on their statistics. I suppose the ban on guns and the lack of an amendment against cruel and unusual punishment are at play here.
I don't know where you get your information from, but there are a lot of FALSE statements in your comment... (I should know it, since I've lived in Switzerland for 40 years....
Here what Switzerland really is about:
they rarely have money because they are heavily taxed Switzerland is among the lowest taxes in the area.... Not that the Swiss don't pay taxes, but they don't pay as much as say the Germans....
the government takes care of their education, their health, and job entry. Absolutely NOT.... Yes, Switzerland has good public schools, but health care is totally private and has always been, and the government certainly does NOT help in any way for finding a job etc....
the majority are denied a significant opportunity to become wealthy . I do not know where that comes from.... but the average Swiss has probably more money in his/her bank account than the average American. The major difference would be real estate, which is extremely expensive in Switzerland... And for a good reason.... there isn't all that much land...
So..... no, you "facts" are whatever and I can't believe you found them someplace on the internet... but then, the internet is full of garbage.... .
I'm sorry but I really don't see your point here...
My blog was clearly not about gun control, but about violence and murders. (At least I thought this was clear...)
BTW... gun control doesn't mean that people cannot have guns, at least it doesn't in Switzerland. It means that there is an actual background check before someone can own a gun.... Maybe this is different in the USA? I wouldn't know... I have no interest whatsoever in owning a gun....
