Branson's Hotel Royale is right off the intersection of Highway 65 and the Branson "Strip". Five stories high, it is nestled in a tiny valley just off the road.
We parked in the front and entered the lobby. It was small, a little worn and shabby, but very clean. A small waterfall added a nice touch.
At the desk was a big biker dude and he female companion. Obviously they weren't happy about something. Ut oh....not a good sign. But wait....something about the hot tub in the room. It's not big enough for both of them. Slightly embarrassed, I pulled T back away from the counter.
The woman behind the desk was trying to be nice, but they were making it really hard for her. She refunded their money and they left.
Feeling bad for her, I gave her a big smile along with our reservation papers. She was delighted to see us. We had Room 209...right at the top of the stairs and right next to the elevator so we only had another room on one side.
I inserted the key card into the slot. Nothing happened. OK, I tried the second one. Still nothing. I found that if I wrapped one leg around my neck, crossed both eyes, and stuck my head up my bum, the door would open.. (Later I learned just make sure the door handle was all the way up.)
The room was cool, small, and cozy. I wrestled our bags in the door and we explored our surroundings. Hot Dog! There was a whirlpool in the tub! This was going to be awesome!
Since the hotel advertised internet connection, I unpacked my laptop and looked for the set up. My heart began to sink. Could it be? Was the computer in the lobby hallway the "internet connection"? Oh please say it isn't so. I'm afraid it was, but surely as much free WiFi that is floating around, I could hook up to some wireless network.
I fearfully opened the laptop and clicked "View Available Wireless Networks". Hallelujah! Linksky's unsecured wireless network. I was saved!
I unpacked the rest of our belongings and after a very good supper at Cracker Barrel, we took a quick dip in the hotel's indoor pool...well pool for T and hot tub for me. Then it was off to dreamland for two very tired travelers.
Up next.....Silver Dollar City!
