The other day, I received a FWD email from a very good friend of mine. Reading this email, it was apparently written by a 14 year old boy who had lost his father in the World Trade Center on 911. His father had been a fire chief for the NY-FD, and the boy had sent out an email, petition for the government to declare Sept. 11Th National Fireman's day in honor of those firemen who lost their lives on that dark day.

I'm not the type of person known to others, as a follower, or a yes man. Although I don't see myself as an over-opinionated person, I believe my opinion sometimes needs to be heard on some topics. So, I sent this email Cc: to all those who were on that email list, that had signed that petition, and here is what I sent. Mind you all, this is just MY opinion. I would love to hear YOURS.

I do agree that the real true heros were the men and women who risked their lives, and even gave their
lives to save others. Many of them heros were not firefighters, Police officers, or paramedics ect.
Also, I do agree that it is a great idea to have Sept,11Th made a national holiday but,
I think it would be unfair, to those who lost loved ones who where not firefighters,
not to mention the victims who were not firefighters either, but innocent people.
The Victims came from more than 90 countries around the world.
The following are the number of people who died at each site:
Here is how I broke it down.
Flight 11... 92 people on board
Flight 175... 64 people on board
Flight 77.... 64 people on board
Flight 93.... 44 people on board

World Trade Center 2,823 (includes airline passengers)
Pentagon 125 (not including plane victims)
Total number killed in attacks (official figure as of 9/5/02): 2,819
Number of firefighters and paramedics killed: 343
Number of NY-PD officers: 23
Number of Port Authority police officers: 37
Number of WTC companies that lost people: 60
Number of employees who died in Tower One: 1,402
Number of employees who died in Tower Two: 614
Number of employees lost at Cantor Fitzgerald: 658
Number of nations whose citizens were killed in attacks: 115
Ratio of men to women who died: 3:1
Age of the greatest number who died: between 35 and 39
Bodies found "intact": 289
Body parts found: 19,858
Number of families who got no remains: 1,717
Estimated units of blood donated to the New York Blood Center: 36,000
Total units of donated blood actually used: 258
Number of people who lost a spouse or partner in the attacks: 1,609
Estimated number of children who lost a parent: 3,051
Percentage of Americans who knew someone hurt or killed in the attacks: 20

Now, I ask you this....Do you still find it fair to make Sept. 11TH National Fireman's Day? I think it should be "Remembrance Day"

I received that email, as well. The thought went through my mind as to how many people died from the catastrophe that day & that there were so many different people in addition to the firefighters.
I typically don't pass stuff like that on as I tend to doubt the validity of it.
I certainly appreciate the break down you've provided here & for whatever reason, I assume the numbers you have referenced come from a valid source.
I'd be in agreement with you that a "Remembrance Day" seems more appropriate.

Sir:
I would rather call it "Never forget day and [B]NEVER FORGIVE"[B]

While Remembrance Day is a wonderful honor I think it would be confusing to some. What the USA celebrates as Vetran's Day on November 11 is known as Remembrance Day in other countries. I honestly cannot offer another suggestion at this time. Also could you please add to your list of losses the animals that perished in or as a result of the tragedy....some pets, some working dogs....

There are certainly alot of things to remember about that day besides the deaths of those American citizens, I'd say lets honor that day, along with the reason we are still free. tc Lost

I'm sorry, but the only thing that I can find on animals that died in result of 911, is this...
