Hello, and good afternoon.
And welcome to my world, the one that exists when I'm not at sea.
Every day not at work is a pretty god one, but this is shaping up to be a peach. When I first moved down to Kent a friend of my future father-in-law asked me what I done in the week since I had returned from the sea. I replied, listen to the radio, read the magazines that had piled up, done some cooking, gone out with my camera, etc. And what will you do next week? He asked. Whatever I want was the best I could come up with.
And that is the best answer I could come up, and the most accurate. And certainly, on days like these this job is pretty good. The only bad point is that Jools does not get as much time off as I do; and so one of the first tasks of the day is to drop her off at work. This morning I had to go to the supermarket to get some rolls and salad for the barbeque we are having tonight.
On the rare days that the sun shines it is always nice to dust the old Weber off and fire up the coals. And so we planned one each night this week as the rain clouds have rolled away and this large firey ball has appeared and folks have smiles on their faces, and aftersun on their shoulders.
Anyway. where were we? Oh, shopping. Next, the meat. This requires a trip out into the country to a little village butcher as he does the best burgers and flavoured sausages around. So, I got 20 burgers, 20 lamb and mint burgers, 20 pork and aspargus sausages, some lamb steaks. That'll do for the 6 of us.
Yes, six; we took Jools's father and his wife out to dinner last night, and after garlic king prawns and rare steak, we went back to their place and I let Tony ply me with Irish Whiskey. He has not set footin our flatsincehe helped us move my stuff in last summer, and more out of courtessy, I asked them if they wanted to come to the bbq tonight.
And Tony he say yes!
Major panic as I now have to make a real effort.
And the house next door have a couple of painters in before it can be let out. Sadly the owner failed to leave them with the power or water on. Or left a key, left tea, milk, etc. So, we have helped them out, and as they are spending all day sanding plaster, so they have also been invited.
I have also been baking, and have a Limonchello and Grappa Tart just about done in the oven, and have a pot of creme brulee coffee brewing. We also have stawberries and ream to have with the tart.
To drink we have a crate of Hoegaarden Dutch beer, another crate of Caffreys Irish beer, a chilled bottle of Zinfandel and a couple of bottles of Burgendy. And my whiskey collection now has seven malts.
So, the question is, anyone hungry?
