Do you ever wonder about what others think of you..... how your peers see you. How your boss sees you, or what regard you are held in.... Well I don't put a lot of thought into those things until someone puts it in my mind. I just do my work to the best of my ability and work hard in hopes that the powers that be will notice when it matters. I know so many people who take pride in their work and many who are work-aholics. I will honestly tell you that my life is forever changed by the actions of my employers and co workers.
I am going to share a letter to the editor that was circulating about the company I work for.... Everything is a direct quote except for the names and company.
"Lete me tell you my story. I was employed @ a area clinic when in Dec 2007 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkins Lymphoma. I underwent 8 chemotherapy treatments and 18 radiation treatments. Being ill after the chemo caused me to miss work and soon my full time status was taken and I was dropped to PRN. At the beginning of June, there was a meeting with Executive Director and HR. My position was discussed and I was told that they would assist in finding me another job at the hospital. Later that afternoon in another meeting with CNO and Executive Director, I again was told the very same thing. Two weeks before my radiation was complete and I would be able to return to work full time, I received a certified letter from my former boss. They no longer needed me and I would not be put back on the schedule. Not only was I dealing with my illness and the financial aspect of it, now I had to deal without my income from my PRN position. Almost 2 months later they have not helped me find another job at the hospital. In todays society, you cant live on one income, and you can only "rob peter to pay paul" so many times. I am currently in remittion with the care from my doctors and nurses and the love and support of my family. Through the strength the good Lord above instilled in me. I have found a new job, and have moved forward with my life. I would only like to "thank" the hospital and clinic for standing by me in my time of need. Maybe you should all go back and reread the mission statement that you say you stand by."
I have to tell you, this brought me to my knees.... tears flowed like it was my family... in a sense it was. I thought of my coworkers and peers as family. We spend more time at work than we do at home with our families... so you would think that those around you would have your best interest at heart.... but that isn't always the case. More times than not it so isn't.
Just made me stop and really think about the organization I work for. Shocked is an understatement. She is a hard worker, dependable, upbeat, glowing reviews. Not really sure why I blogged this other than it hit me so hard and made my heart break for this woman and her family.... I wanted someone else who might be going through this to know that you are not alone.... and something good can come from such a negative situation if you just have faith, believe, and trust in your family... they are all we ever really have anyway.

Hi kallie...nice seeing you.
I am all too familiar with your former co-workers situation. More or less, it happened to me. No, I wasn't terminally ill or anything like that, but my position was undermined & I was let go after 12 long years of dedicated work.
It's all about big business nowadays...it's not like it used to be when you dedicated yourself to your employer for your working life only expecting a little nest egg & some insurance when you retired. Getting the rug snatched out from under your feet is nothing but a thing to them.

Wich is fine. But,if they wanna make somthing out of it, I hope they say it to my face. Then..I can really give them some thoughts on how they should 'think of me'.

alot of fine people were terminated from the hospital I worked at for similar reasons.. they had been through surgery and were labled as high risk for more injuries and lost time.. one was fired from her CNA job after having a workers comp claim and surgery.. she got a lawyer, but was hired back as a receptionist in the ER.. then 3 weeks later was fired because the crew down there just didn't think she fit in.. they have over a dozen lawsuits filed against them right now for wrongful termination..this is going to be interesting to watch how it all unfolds in the media.. they are having a blast reporting this in the news papers.. the President at the hospital is having a hard time keeping this crap under wraps

That is a pretty sad state of affairs when a company, hospital or whatever has to make a "business decision" that can impact the life of someone already in a bad way. The sad part is that it's illegal to go postal on upper management when they pull this very much inhumane crappola.
However, what comes around generally goes around. One day you just hope that these same people will be handed their own form of sh*t sandwich to dine on so that they fully understand what they have done to others

Sad story, I'm sorry for your illness but there is another side of the story. Depending on your position with the hospital you could have become a liability. A performance issue that could be used in a liable lawsuit. You make a mistake and that mistake results in injury or death the lawyers will use your illness and hospitals knowledge of that illness as a cause factor. Your ability to function in your position was hampered by your illness in short. Does'nt matter whether it's true or not.
Don't be so quick to blame the powers at be. Here's a fact: An estimated 1.6 trillion dollars in the past 10 years has been paid out by insurance company's to resolve frivolous medical lawsuits. Your more likely a victim of societies thurst to get rich quick then aything else.

It's human nature to care what others may think - regardless of how removed we may feel we are from such things. From the time we are small - we yearn for approval - first from our parents - later - teachers - siblings - friends - even society in general. It is not a weakness to seek approval - if we didn't want approval, society would be a lot more chaotic.
What happened with the lady in question is just plain WRONG. I'm certain the people in the position of authority would have SOME explanation - be it lame and trite or not. Seems the almighty dollar will rule over most anything else MOST of the time.
The only thing in your blog I disagree with "family is all you ever have anyway". I think if you really believe that - you don't give enough credence to friends who may actually love and care for you. Do people believe in YOU? Would you fail THEM? Nooo - I dare say that is not what you are about....and you're not family to them. So I believe in friends - sometimes we just need to give them the chance to stand by us.

We , as a society, are daily focused on the wrong things. "Things" that in the end, do not produce happiness. A very effective and well executed deception.
Focusing on each other would make a difference. Focusing on the things that are not things. This is the only real answer to our mutual journey, here on the planet.
The more we take, the less we become.
And yes.....I do care what others think of me. I believe in love, and I live my life accordingly, the best I can.
It is really good to see you again. ~*~ Tunes

I think about leaving a legacy of what I was sent here on Earth to do Did I do the job? I mean is everyone here for a reason? When you die, will you be missed? Did you make a difference? What was you existence here for anyways? For nothing? I don't believe we are here for nothing, we are all here for something. So yes, I do care, tc Lost

Thanks everyone who posted....
Wgab, you know I believe that we have 2 sets of family... the one you were born with, and the one you choose to surround yourself with every day. Weather those friends are in close proximity or long distance, they are still your "chosen" family. You got me pegged! lol
Tunes, you always say just the right things with minimal effort.... such a wise man, and so "in-tune" with so many... thanks again for being such a wonderful influence in my life!
Long, I see your point, everyone is entitled to have their view and I respect yours, it gives a different perspective to things, but doesnt change how I personally feel about the situation.
I love all the comments, thank you. I guess ultimately, I do care very deeply what others think...I just don't have it in the forefront of my mind... Like so many of you, I live my life a certain way for a reason and that is just how it is. Everything happens for a reason, weather we ever understand it or make sense of it, if it is meant to be, it will be.
Hugs n kisses to all who read this and God Bless!

Kallie, it truly is a sad story. Sadder still, is the fact someone could read your blog and be too ignorant to realize you were speaking about a co-worker and not yourself.
For a health care facility to turn it's back on one of it's own is truly despicable. It seems these days, that the words right and wrong in our country, are being replaced by profit and loss.

I used to but now never ever mistake work and co workers for what it is - just a way to pay the bills. Compassion does not exist at work and the only important thing is the almighty dollar. Save your loyalty for family and real friends. On a completely unrelated matter I think you are incredibly pretty. Don't worry I am as straight as a ruler.

Are hospitals and clinics exempt from FMLA? It's illegal to not hold someone A job---maybe not the exact same job, as business must go on.
